The 888-room V Hotel Lavender is an enormous upper-middle-range hotel situated above the Lavender MRT station. There's a small shopping arcade with a food court in the lower level, and the hotel has its own pizzeria, and outdoor pool. Rooms are modern but small, although many on the higher floors have good views of the city. The V Hotel Bencoolen has similarly cramped rooms, but the property is closer to downtown.
Scene
Huge business hotel above a mall, popular with tour groups
If not for the rack upon rack of suitcases and the enormous chandelier in the lobby, the V Hotel Lavender could easily be mistaken for a shopping mall. The front wall of the entrance is all floor-to-ceiling glass, which brings natural light into the otherwise dark interiors. Wide corridors filled with tour groups staying at the huge hotel and commuters from the connected MRT station are lined with shops and fast-food joints.
Location
Above the Lavender MRT station, a 20-minute subway ride into the city center
The V Hotel Lavender sits above the Lavender MRT station, making it a convenient base for exploring the city. Hip boutiques on Haji Lane are a 15-minute walk away, while the bustling Orchard Road shopping thoroughfare takes about the same amount of time to reach via public transportation. To the south, Marina Bay, Suntec City, and the Millenia Walk shopping development are all 20 minutes away by public transportation. Changi International Airport is about a 20-minute drive or a minimum of 40 minutes to the east via public transportation.
Rooms
Small but modern rooms with mini-fridges and marble bathrooms, some with great city views
The hotel's 888 rooms are split between four categories, ranging from Superior Rooms with queen beds to larger Premier Rooms that also feature armchairs and coffee tables. All have a modern decor, with dark floors, white bedspreads with purple accent pillows, textured gray wallpaper, and window ledges big enough to sit on. However, most rooms are small to the point of being cramped, with small desks integrated into the walls. All rooms come with 32-inch flat-screens, mini-fridges, electronic safes, and kettles. The marble bathrooms with walk-in showers are equally compact, with small ledges above the sinks for storing toiletries.
Features
Outdoor pool, pizzeria with outdoor terrace, numerous dining options at on-site food court
The hotel has a small shopping arcade on the lower level, with around 15 shops and food-court-style eateries. For more substantial meals, the hotel has its own cafe/pizzeria on the fourth floor terrace called 12-Inch Pizzas and Records. Pizza offerings include classic favorites along with some eclectic varieties, including a hoisin garlic sauce pie with roasted pork belly. The cafe also does burgers and fried rice, along with a breakfast buffet (not included) and has lots of outdoor terrace seating. On the same level, right by the cafe, there's a sun deck with a pool and plenty of covered lounge seating. An adjacent fitness center has treadmills and other cardio machines and looks out on the pool through floor-to-ceiling windows. There's also a business center with several computers, but as is the case throughout the rest of the hotel, there's a fee for Wi-Fi.
