Bottom Line

Moon 23 Hotel is a stylish upper-middle-range boutique in Little India with more affordable rates than many of its competitors, but at the cost of fewer amenities. The Standard Rooms are cramped and many have no windows behind their decorative curtains. Trendy wallpaper and rainfall showers help offset some of their faults, but even the Executive Rooms feel small. Guests who can't spring for the Moonlight Suite with its beautiful outdoor tub should check out the nearby Wanderlust, where the slightly higher rates include the use of a backyard whirlpool tub.

Scene

Trendy boutique with mod furnishings

The hotel's glass and gray steel facade contrasts the motley collection of colorful, and often crumbling buildings around it on this narrow, somewhat gritty street. Inside, the bright lobby sets a stylish precedent with sparsely arranged purple mod furniture and glossy monochrome floors. Opposite the small front desk, spherical pendant lamps hang over the mid-century modern self-serve area where guests can find tea and coffee

Location

On a side street in Little India, walking distance to major attractions

Moon 23 Hotel is on a side street in Little India, surrounded by the neighborhood's colorful shops and eateries. The hip boutiques on Haji Lane are a 12-minute walk away, while the bustling Orchard Road shopping area is 15 minutes away on foot. To the south, Marina Bay, Suntec City, and the Millenia Walk shopping development are less than a 20-minute walk away. Changi International Airport is about a 20-minute drive or a minimum of 45 minutes on the East West MRT Line.

Rooms

Small rooms with iPod docks and rainfall showers

Most of the hotel's 80 rooms are small, with cramped quarters around double (or two twin beds) and shelf-style desks with accompanying white plastic pod chairs. Some rooms don't have windows, but try to compensate for it by covering the bare wall with a curtain. Most rooms have a color palette of white and shiny gray monochrome, while updated Executive Rooms add purple accents (and a cool patterned wall). Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and iPod docks come standard as do stocked minibars. Most of the bathrooms have rainfall showers, though a few Deluxe Rooms have shower/tub combos open to the room. The single Moonlight Suite adds a Nespresso machine and a beautifully tiled open-air bathroom on a balcony with an outdoor hot tub

Features

Guest lounge with free refreshments and happy hour

All the hotel's facilities are in its lobby lounge, and there's a flat-screen TV housed in a smoked glass wall at the far end of the dining area. Free coffee and tea are available all day and there's a daily happy hour with free wine and cocktails (there's a welcome drink at check-in, too). A breakfast buffet with pastries and hot options is served daily, but not included in standard rates.
