Le Meridien Singapore, Sentosa is one of the many luxury hotels crowded on Sentosa Island. However, its restored 1940s building, and Onsen suites with outdoor Japanese-style hot tubs make it unique among other properties in its class. All 191 rooms have modern perks such as Nespresso coffeemakers and bathrooms with freestanding tubs. This design-forward hotel features a contemporary restaurant, whisky bar, and an outdoor infinity pool, but no spa. Imbiah station monorail is just outside making for easy access across the island, and all the attractions of Resorts World, including Universal Studios, are essentially across the road. Nearby, the less expensive Resorts World Sentosa - Hotel Michael has a spa and was designed by famed architect Michael Graves' firm -- although half the property is located on the Resort World premises, which may not suit all travelers.
Scene
Luxury hotel partially housed in a restored colonial building
Just across the street from the Le Meridien Singapore, Sentosa is the towering Merlion, a popular tourist attraction and embodiment of the local folklore about a traditional guardian of the island's prosperity. Part of the hotel is a modern structure, but the more interesting Heritage Wing is a former British military hospital from the 1940s, when Singapore was under colonial rule. Waterfalls, fountains, and hanging gardens surround the grounds and spill into the hotel's bright interior spaces. The lobby features an extremely high glass ceiling, white marble floors, and elegant natural wood benches. Huge striped tapestries hang behind the white marble and green glass front desk. The hotel has decorated its common areas with items from the early days of Singapore, including an antique phone. It all amounts to a stunning and sophisticated property, which tends to draw lots of couples and some families.
Location
Across the street from Resorts World Sentosa
The hotel is located on the bustling western half of Sentosa Island near the iconic Merlion statue. Across the street, there's the huge entertainment complex of Resorts World Sentosa, filled with a wide range of restaurants, hotels, shops, casinos, clubs, and attractions, including Universal Studios and a massive aquarium. Imbiah station on the Sentosa Express monorail is just outside the hotel, making for easy access across the island. Beaches are a popular attraction here, with Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong Beaches all within five minutes' drive. Sentosa Island itself is a 25-minute drive from the downtown area and is connected to mainland Singapore by the Sentosa Gateway, a one-way tunnel. Changi Airport is a 25-minute drive from the Moevenpick.
Rooms
Modern rooms with Nespresso machines and stand-alone tubs
The hotel has 191 rooms in two distinct sections, either in the modern building, or in the restored colonial-style building which has views of the Merlion. Rooms in the former have a contemporary decor accented with wood and red fabrics, while Heritage Wing rooms have a more colorful decor that incorporates architectural details from the 1940s building, including floor-to-ceiling windows integrated into the original veranda railing. The bathrooms in all are covered in various types of stone, with walk-in showers and separate freestanding soaking tubs. Luxury toiletries by Heeley are provided. All rooms have Nespresso coffeemakers, tea facilities, and minibars stocked with beer, juice, soda, and water. Large LCD flat-screen TVs with multimedia features are wall-mounted in attractive light-wood consoles. Work desks with roller or simple wood chairs are provided. The Onsen Suites add furnished outdoor decks with beautiful Japanese hot tubs. There's also a Penthouse Suite with a private rooftop infinity pool and garden.
Features
Outdoor pool, international buffet restaurant, tea lounge, and whisky bar
The hotel has a small outdoor infinity pool, surrounded by waterfalls, hanging gardens, and fountains, but with limited space for sitting and sunbathing on a cramped deck. There's no spa, but the bright fitness center is open 24 hours with modern cardio and weight-training machines. For all-day dining, Latest Recipe has an international breakfast buffet (not included) and a menu of European and Asian fusion cuisine, with extra seating on an outdoor terrace. The Galleria functions as a hall connecting the hotel's two wings, serving English and local high tea and light bites at bistro tables lining the airy space. World of Whisky (dubbed WOW) is an upscale whisky bar with over 250 varieties. It serves tapas and has a private dining room called The Malt where guests can book dinners with whisky pairings. The hotel has a 24-hour business center with two desktop computers for guest use. Meeting space for up to 180 people is available.
