Hotel Clover 5 HongKong Street’s biggest draws are its rooftop pool and its great location with easy access to places like Chinatown, Clarke Quay, and Boat Quay. A pool is an exceptional amenity for a budget boutique hotel this close to the city center. It’s complemented by other amenities such as a breakfast (not included) with Asian and European options and free Wi-Fi throughout. The 55 rooms here are modern, but compact, with bathrooms with frosted glass walls, which might not be ideal for all. Flat-screen TVs, kettles, and free non-alcoholic beverages in the mini-fridges are provided in rooms. Travelers may want to consider [email protected], as it offers free breakfast, spacious rooms, a pool, and rooftop terrace.
Scene
Posh boutique hotel with a few public spaces, and a mostly couples' clientele
Hotel Clover 5 HongKong Street adds a trendy exterior of interlocking floral designs to a street already filled with colorful buildings. As a boutique hotel, there aren’t many public spaces beyond a breakfast room and a rooftop terrace, both of which can feel cramped with guests. As for the lobby, it's quite posh with a gold front desk, two white trendy armchairs, modern chandeliers, and a statement wall with the same floral patterns found on the exterior of the building. Couples are the primary guests, as couples (and single travelers) are better equipped than families to manage in the rooms' tight spaces.
Location
Located between Chinatown and Clark Quay and Boat Quay
This boutique hotel is located on the edge of Chinatown, just a four-minute walk from Boat Quay and an eight-minute walk from Clarke Quay. This location is quite wonderful as travelers can walk to most businesses and attractions in the city center within 15 minutes. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and shops, though Central Mall only takes 10 minutes to reach on foot for those who want more options. It takes 28 minutes on foot (or 13 minutes by car) to reach the Gardens by the Bay. For those who wish to explore outside of their walking limits, there’s a bus stop outside the hotel and a metro stop that’s a three-minute walk away. Chiangi Airport Singapore is a 20-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Small, but contemporary rooms with flat-screen TVs, free stocked mini-fridges, and kettles
The rooms at Hotel Clover 5 HongKong Street are clean and contemporary, but extremely cramped. There’s dark wooden flooring and furniture, white beds with cheery accent pillows and bed runners, and abstract art hung above the beds. However, the back and the front of the beds are often touching the walls. The bathrooms are only a few feet away from the beds and separated by frosted glass decorated with a floral motif -- which isn’t ideal for all as the glass doesn't block light or provide full privacy. Amenities here include air-conditioning, laptop-sized safes, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges stocked with free sodas and bottled water, and kettles. Bathrooms are compact with vessel bowl sinks, small showers with waterfall showerheads, toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Rooftop swimming pool, terrace with seating, breakfast buffet, and free Wi-Fi
Amenities are somewhat limited at Hotel Clover 5 HongKong Street. Surprisingly enough, the hotel does offer a small rooftop swimming pool. It’s deep enough for a dip and surrounded by a lovely terrace with limited brown wicker chairs and potted plants. In the mornings, a breakfast with Asian and European options are available which includes items like eggs, veggie samosas, fruit, and more. The breakfast is not included in rates (though it can be booked with the room, as part of a package) and is served in a small breakfast room. There are no other dining options on-site. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout and there’s a public computer in the lobby.
