Bottom Line

This upscale 308-room hotel is situated in the heart of Singapore’s famed Orchard Road shopping belt, close to bars, restaurants, and multiple public transport routes. It has a modern and trendy vibe throughout, particularly at the well-reviewed restaurant and bar. Rooms are similarly stylish, plus they come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free use of a smartphone. However, some rooms have small bathrooms and views blocked by the herringbone-patterned windows. Though the hotel lacks a spa, it has a black-tiled pool and a small gym. Overall, it's a solid option for business and leisure travelers, but the nearby Regent has a full spa and several on-site dining options for only slightly higher rates.

Scene

Modern and trendy hotel in Singapore’s famous Orchard Road shopping hub

The modern Grand Park Orchard hotel opened in 2010 after a multimillion-dollar makeover. It's housed in a striking building featuring a herringbone glass facade and a dramatic eight-story media wall. Taking inspiration from the fashion industry, interiors are similarly slick, with black marble walls, ambient lighting, modern sculptures, and pops of bright color throughout. The hotel has a sophisticated, trendy vibe, particularly thanks to two chic bars that are popular with young and hip locals. Guests tend to be split between leisure and business travelers.

Location

In the heart of Singapore’s famous mall-lined Orchard Road shopping belt

The hotel's location smack dab in the middle of Singapore's famous Orchard Road shopping district is one of its main draws. As well as being close to countless designer boutiques and shopping complexes, some of Singapore’s top restaurants such as Iggys and Les Amis are within walking distance. Next door is Knightsbridge, a four-story luxury retail complex with numerous flagship stores, while opposite the hotel is Paragon Mall. It's a seven-minute walk to both Somerset and Orchard MRT subway stations, or the hotel's free shuttle service can take guests to major MRT stations or down to Marina Bay. Downtown Singapore is a 15-minute taxi ride away. The Changi Airport can be reached in about 22 minutes by car.

Rooms

Stylish rooms decorated with modern touches and striking wall murals

Rooms are elegantly decorated in a mostly neutral-tone palette of dark wood and leather furnishings and striking wall murals featuring women with billowing dresses. Club-level rooms add hip purple chairs and shiny blue bedding -- a step up from the black-and-white bed runners in most. All rooms come with 40-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, free Wi-Fi, and free use of smartphones with internet and unlimited local and select international calls. Minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, safes, and ironing facilities are also provided. Marble bathrooms are stylish, but some are on the small side. They're either equipped with shower/tub combos or showers and separate tubs. Robes, slippers, bathroom scales, hairdryers, and toiletries are all provided. Premier Rooms come with a view of Orchard Road through floor-to-ceiling windows, however views are obscured by the facade. Some rooms overlook a construction site, so it's worth inquiring about the view. Suites add butler service, Nespresso coffee, machines and Chopard toiletries.

Features

An upscale restaurant with a bar, plus a chic pool with adjacent bar

The on-site dining option, Mitzo Restaurant & Bar, offers contemporary Chinese cuisine in a swanky space that turns into a modern supper club in the evenings. Additionally, 24-hour room service is available. Bar Canary is a chic poolside lounge by day, lively bar with a beach vibe as night falls. The black-tiled pool isn't big, but it's sleek and lined with yellow-cushioned loungers. Other facilities include a 24-hour business center, meeting spaces, free Wi-Fi, and small gym with treadmills, free weights, and a press machine. There's no spa on-site, but the hotel will provide shuttle service to another hotel's spa. Free shuttle service also stops at various points, including the nearest MRT stations, en route to Marina Bay.Rooms on the Crystal Club Floor benefit from access to a dedicated lounge, as well as free breakfast, all-day refreshments, evening cocktails, and butler service.
