The 615-room Furama RiverFront is a mid-range hotel on a quiet street in the River Valley area, next to an untouched nature reserve. It's close to nightlife in Robertson and Boat Quays, and Chinatown, but a 15-minute walk to the nearest MRT station. Standout features include the Waterfall Lounge, with a 20-foot natural waterfall backdrop, and a pleasant outdoor pool and hot tub. The two on-site restaurants include one that serves Indonesian cuisine, plus breakfast is free for Club-level rooms in their exclusive lounge. Family rooms have colorful wall murals, bunk beds, and Xbox consoles, while standard rooms are a little bland with underwhelming amenities. Compare rates with the Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, which has more modern rooms and breakfast included in all room rates.
Scene
Classic with a touch of modern; family-friendly and popular with tourists
The Furama RiverFront's large, slightly curved building features a mix of old-fashioned and updated spaces. The spacious lobby is dominated by dark marble pillars and patterned floors, plus a classic chandelier and a winding burgundy-carpeted staircase. It’s juxtaposed with a modern all-white lounge area tucked off to one side. A brightly colored children’s playroom also extends off of the lobby, adding to the family-friendly vibe of the property. Despite its older decor, such as floral carpeting and mauve-colored bucket chairs, the Waterfall Lounge is a lovely place to relax. It sits beside an untouched nature reserve with a 20-foot waterfall visible through floor-to-ceiling windows. The Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant is another interesting space, with white brick walls and traditional Indonesian accents. Tourists are the main crowd here, though business travelers would also be comfortable.
Location
South of the river, walkable to quays, but far from trains
The hotel sits on a small lane flanked by two major roads. It’s a quiet area, with a natural reserve right beside the hotel. The nearest MRT station, Outram Park, is a 15-minute walk away, so using public transportation is not quick. Cabs are plentiful, however, and cultural neighborhoods are within walking distance. It’s an eight-minute walk to Robertson Quay, known for its vibrant nightlife scene that's popular with expats and tourists. Boat Quay, another spot for bars and clubs, is 22 minutes on foot, while Clarke Quay's restaurants and bars are just under 20 minutes' walk. Singapore’s Chinatown and the hip Tiong Bahru neighborhood, with its Art Deco buildings and cafes, can both be reached in about 15 minutes on foot. For business travelers, the City Hall area and Raffles City Convention Center are a 10-minute drive or half-hour walk. It’s a 25-minute drive to Changi Airport.
Rooms
Bland and outdated, but freshened-up higher-level rooms available
There are 615 rooms at the Furama RiverFront that range from drab and old-fashioned to modern with stylish accents. Lower-tier Superior rooms have bland blue carpet, dated wood furniture, and purple accent walls. It's probably worth upgrading to one of the Deluxe rooms, which feature more modern, cheerful decor, better lighting, and sleek work desks with ergonomic chairs. Other upgraded rooms may have chic touches such as black-and-white photography, leather button-tufted headboards, and stylish lime-green armchairs. Club-level rooms and Executive Suites include access to the Executive Lounge, which serves free breakfast and evening cocktails in a warm atmosphere. For families, there are themed rooms that have colorful murals of underwater and pirate scenes, plus Xboxes and bunk beds. Updated rooms have beige tiled bathrooms with glass-walled stall showers and separate tubs, and some have modern vessel sinks and soaking tubs. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and safes. Most have minibars. Club rooms and Executive Suites come with free Wi-Fi, but other rooms only include free Wi-Fi if booked directly through the hotel website.
Features
Two restaurants, lounge with waterfall view, good-size outdoor pool
For guests that want to stay on-site for meals, the Furama RiverFront has two restaurants. The Square @ Furama serves buffet and a la carte international cuisine, including a buffet breakfast (for a fee). Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant serves a Halal Indonesian cuisine buffet, as well as a la carte options, for lunch and dinner. Drinks and snacks are served inside the aptly named Waterfall Lounge, which has a 20-foot waterfall backdrop. For leisure time, there's a fairly spacious, freeform outdoor pool with a hot tub, and a well-landscaped seating area with lounge chairs. There's also a small but well-equipped gym with cardio and weight machines and free weights, plus a brightly colored children’s playroom on the ground floor. Coin-operated laundry facilities are available for guests to use. There are several different event spaces available, including ballrooms and a poolside cocktail area. Wi-Fi is free throughout most common spaces.
