Turtle Beach Resort Siesta Key is a small upper-middle-range property that consists of 10 tropical cottages, located on the water. It's great for a romantic Florida getaway for outdoor enthusiasts. There are plenty of places to relax, from the heated waterfront pool to each cottage's private dock, and outdoor adventures to be had, including paddling through the waters over to the nearby Bird Keys. Cottages have full kitchens and their own private outdoor hot tubs, but are simply decorated and showing a bit of wear. Rates are comparable to other resorts in the area, but this property stands out for the romantic touches.

Turtle Beach Resort Siesta Key is a cozy, waterfront hotel that caters to both families and couples seeking a romantic island getaway. Cottages are accessed through a maze of lushly landscaped cobblestone pathways, shaded by trees and tropical plants.Out back by the bay, there are hammocks and swings, as well as a swimming pool that overlooks the water. A cabana lounge area features a dark sectional sofa with orange cushions. There are canoes and kayaks available on the dock.Inside, there is an office with a check-in desk, as well as a gallery showcasing international art. Rooms are cozy, featuring tropical decor, kitchens, private patios with hammocks, and private hot tubs.

Located on the water, and within kayaking distance of a private beach
Located in the southern part of Siesta Key, the cottages of the Turtle Beach Resort overlook Little Sarasota Bay. The Inn at Turtle Beach, its sister property, is located a few blocks north. Nestled on a quiet part of the island, the hotel is a few minutes' walk to Turtle Beach or less than 10 minutes' drive to the larger Crescent Beach. Bird Keys is a quick five minute paddle across the water, which is an especially nice trip at sunset.Nearby restaurants are within walking distance, making a car almost unnecessary. Just a few minutes walking down the road is Ophelia’s on the Bay, serving up fine seafood dining with an extensive wine list. The more casual Turtles Restaurant is a five-minute drive north. The hotel is about an hour's drive from the Tampa International Airport.

Simple cottages with private patios, and some with private hot tubs
Bungalows at the Turtle Beach Resort are cozy and decorated much like rooms at a bed and breakfast; the tropical decor is hodgepodge and slightly kitschy, and includes personal items from the owners. They're quaint, but simple, and showing some wear. The unit we saw had tile floors, wicker accents, a studded leather couch, and a heavy wooden armoire -- not to mention a lamp in the shape of a palm tree, tribal art hanging on tired white wood paneling, and a bamboo mat on the ceiling. The units each have a full-size kitchen outfitted with a microwave, toaster oven, stove, and coffeemaker. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, and some have hammocks as well as private hot tubs.

Waterfront swimming pool and free kayaks
A swimming pool overlooks the water and features a deck with lounge chairs and two grills. On the dock, fishing poles, kayaks and canoes are available for guest use and the owners provide directions to what they call the “Secret Beach.” The on-site do-it-yourself grill is a nice touch. Guests can bring their catches back to the hotel, where staff members have been known to fillet their fish for delicious meals.Swings and lounge chairs are also on the dock, and hammocks are in every private patio and throughout the property. There is no restaurant on the property.
