The Crescent Tower Beachfront is a mid-range, 30-unit property with limited features and apartment-style rooms, located on the beach and within walking distance of restaurants. All rooms are studio apartments with full kitchens, living rooms, and patios or balconies -- ground-level studios have patios that open directly onto the beach. Decor is different in each studio, and some look more modern than others, but the overall look is somewhat dated -- loud tropical prints, tile or carpeted floors, and mismatched furnishings. There's a heated outdoor pool, and lighted shuffleboard on-site. Rates are comparatively lower than at other hotels in the vicinity, but guests will find more modern rooms and better features elsewhere -- still, those extras can cost up to three times what Crescent Tower charges for a stay on the beach.
Scene
Simple pool area and patio on the beach
The Crescent Tower Beachfront has a well-manicured front lawn that almost distracts from the lackluster apartment-style exterior of the hotel: the front is pale blue and the back is pale yellow. A brick paved parking lot surrounds the front and the side of the property, which is popular among older couples who tend to return year after year. The heated pool is simple and rectangular, with a brick patio dotted with blue-and-white lounge chairs, surrounded by a white picket fence. The shuffleboard court and picnic area (including pavilion) with blue tables and yellow umbrellas sits beside the pool. Behind the hotel is a brick patio on the beach with more blue tables and lounge chairs overlooking the water.
Location
On the beach within walking distance of restaurants
The hotel is located on Seaside Drive in tourist-friendly Sarasota, where many other beachfront accommodations reside. The property is within a five-minute walk of restaurants, including French cuisine, pizza, Peruvian food, and a crab and oyster bar -- as well as a liquor store and 7-Eleven. The main attraction here is the beach, but the hotel is also within a 15- to 20-minute drive of Ringling Museum of Art and Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall for cultural escapes. The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is about 25 minutes away.
Rooms
Clean, uniquely decorated studios; great views from the Gulf side
Each room is decorated slightly differently. Some rooms have darker furniture that is a bit more modern, but most rooms have an outdated Florida aesthetic, including light wood furniture, wicker chairs, and beach-y color schemes with loud tropical patterns. Floors are carpeted or plain white tile. Each unit has a patio or a balcony, with ground-level patios opening right onto the sand. The best views are on the second level on the Gulf side. This is an older property with somewhat thin walls, so ground-level rooms can be noisy when guests in upper-level rooms walk around; the hotel requests that guests walk quietly during the night.
Features
Pool and beach access but no on-site restaurant
The most important feature of Crescent Tower is the beach. It's got white sand, clear water, and plenty of space to spread out. There is also a heated pool, a picnic pavilion with a grill, a couple of picnic tables, a lighted shuffleboard court, and a few other tables and chairs dispersed throughout the property. At the pool there are lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas -- perfect for lounging. Each unit has a specified parking spot included with the rental, and there's free Wi-Fi. Guests have to go elsewhere for food because the hotel doesn't have a restaurant.
