Tara Angkor Hotel

The Tara Angkor greets guests with a sparkling white palatial exterior, and then a large lobby with plenty of guests hanging around between check in and tours. This hotel is popular among tour groups, as well as families and those seeking plenty of on-site facilities. The long lobby contains the two restaurants at one end, with an open business/computer area and shop at the other. Through the lobby, there is a long sunny terrace, popular for breakfast in the morning and drinks in the evening, with cascading fountains at the end, which lead up to the swimming pool terrace. While the hotel falls in the higher price bracket, it certainly isn't highbrow or pretentious, and attracts almost every type of tourist.

The Tara Angkor Hotel is located on the road to the temples of Angkor Wat, slightly outside of the Siem Reap city center. The hotel is very convenient for accessing the temples, but it's a 10-minute drive into the downtown area where guests will find all the restaurants and pubs. The road in front of the hotel is quite busy, with plenty of non-stop traffic -- although it's quiet once inside the hotel. There are almost no restaurants, bars, or shops in the immediate area, so guests must rely on rental cars or taxis. The hotel is a 15-minute drive from the airport. 

There are 206 rooms at the Tara Angkor. The rooms are spacious and have modern amenities, like large flat-screen TVs with cable channels, safe boxes, minibars, electric hot water kettles,and free Wi-Fi. While the rooms feature nice Khmer decor, like silk bed coverings and cushion covers, along with wood floors, they look a bit worn. Additionally, none of the rooms have views, nor do any of the windows open unless one signs a security waiver at the front desk. They lack terraces or balconies. 

Standard Superior Rooms come with bathtub/shower units, while Deluxe and Suite Rooms come with separate bathtubs and showers. The extra-large Family Suites are basically two connecting rooms that have additional sitting areas with sofas and chairs, and these suites have three televisions each and plenty of space. All rooms come with free breakfast.

The Tara Angkor has a lot of features, and is one of the better hotels in Siem Reap for those seeking on-site amenities. There is a large swimming pool, fitness center, and lovely spa. In the lobby of the hotel guests will find a souvenir shop, business center with iMac computers for guest use, and two restaurants: the Tong Tara, with indoor and outdoor seating, which serves free buffet breakfasts and caters to groups for lunch and dinner, and the Frangipani, which serves Khmer and international food for lunch and dinner. There is also the Lily Lounge for drinks in the evening, and a pool bar serving throughout the day.
