The Heritage Suites is a small boutique hotel with only 26 rooms that have fine wood floors and premium linen, along with espresso machines. The various suites also offered here feature outdoor showers in stone gardens, plus steam rooms and roll-top tubs in each open-plan bedroom. The hotel sits off a dusty road outside the town center, but it is away from the tourists and feels very local, not to mention its location also makes it closer to the temples of Angkor than other hotels. While reaching the restaurants and bars of Pub Street downtown require a tuk tuk ride, there are local restaurants in the neighborhood and it is quiet here. The Heritage Suites also has its own restaurant and bar offering fine dining, and there is a small spa and inviting swimming pool on the premises as well. While the standard rooms are slightly subpar compared to other upmarket spots like Shinta Mani or the Victoria Angkor, the suites at Heritage offer numerous amenities -- but come at prices that reflect this.
Scene
This stylish boutique property, housed in an Indochinese colonial building, has a vintage Mercedes in the driveway and a fine wood interior with objects d' art and photos.
The Heritage Suites is a stylish boutique hotel. Entering the gravel driveway, one is greeted by a couple of classic Mercedes fronting the entrance of the classic Indochinese colonial building. There isn't much of a lobby inside, or -- better put -- the lobby and restaurant/bar are all merged into one space, a two-floor open area with fine wood columns leading up to the high ceilings of a traditional Khmer triangular roof, with black and white art photos on the walls, stone Buddhist statues, and hand-crafted wooden lamps and large armchairs, with plenty of open space. It's dim, ambiance-filled, and intimate, and feels quite exclusive. Guests tend to be older travelers who enjoy small and personalized boutique hotels away from the crowds.
Location
In a local neighborhood away from the tourist crowds, yet within easy reach of both downtown and temples
The Heritage Suites Hotel is located well outside of the tourist zone in downtown. It's too far to walk to popular spots like Pub Street or the Old Market or Night Market, but these spots are just a short tuk tuk ride away. Additionally, there are decent restaurants in the neighborhood, and it really feels like a local community here. The hotel sits along a dusty and bumpy side road, but again, is just minutes from the main road heading out to the temples at Angkor Wat, which are about a 10-minute drive from here, and the airport is just 15 to 20 minutes away. It's a quiet, and a bit off the beaten track, location -- making it perfect for those who don't want to be in the middle of all the nightlife action.
Rooms
Suites feature in-room saunas and open-plan, roll-top bathtubs -- plus private stone gardens with outdoor showers
There are only 26 rooms at this small boutique hotel. The entry-level Classic Rooms are only six in number, and they are generally overpriced for what one gets. Yes, there are fine hardwood floors along with premium linens, tables and chairs, and espresso machines, but there are no balconies or views to be had, and the rooms are rather dim. These rooms do have flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars, bathrobes, and umbrellas, but the bathrooms are small and only have showers. Of far more impressive stature are the next category Bungalow Suites, which make up most of the hotel's rooms. These large private bungalows have Art Deco themes, bright colors, stone gardens with hanging rattan chairs and outdoor showers, and open-plan bedrooms with both roll-top bathtubs and personal saunas. Other features are the same as those found in Classic Rooms, except that in all the suites, TVs are available only on request. The Executive Suites also feature outdoor whirlpools. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi and breakfast.
Features
Upscale Khmer dining and cocktail bar, garden pool, and small spa are the highlights
The Heritage Suites Hotel is a small place with not too many features. There is, however, a lovely garden swimming pool with a poolside bar, and a small spa as well, plus a boutique offering fine jewelry, carvings, silks, and other souvenirs of Siem Reap. For dining, the Heritage Restaurant and Bar offers upscale Khmer and Western cuisine, and has special evenings such as jazz nights with special happy hour cocktails, or Khmer barbecue nights with classical Apsara dance performances. The hotel also has an on-site tour agency, and there are a couple of vintage Mercedes in the driveway to take guests around the temples or further afield.
