There is off-site parking and airport transportation, but both cost a fee.
Scene
A cozy, if slightly dated, downtown hotel
Although the Massimo Plaza Hotel is small, it has an intimate, homey atmosphere. Large blue area rugs, warm wood, and comfortable seating in the breakfast room and lounge/bar add coziness to the space. The blue armchairs are older in style, but the lovely wood flooring is carried through the common areas and into the rooms; half the flooring is patterned blue carpet. Framed artwork hangs in the hallways and common areas to provide some sense of style. Free coffee, tea, and newspapers are available in the lobby and the front desk area has lovely woodwork and stained glass doors. The exterior of the building, besides the doors, looks mostly plain compared to the inside.
Location
In the historic district, across from Teatro Massimo
The Massimo Plaza Hotel is located in the historic district, across from a bus stop and Teatro Massimo. The Regional Archeological Museum, Cathedral of Palermo, Teatro Politeama, and Pizza Politeama are all under a 10-minute walk from the hotel, as are many shops, restaurants, and public transportation stops. A rental car is only necessary if you plan on traveling outside of Palermo.
Rooms
Slightly dated rooms nonetheless have some nice extras.
Each room at the Massimo Plaza Hotel has a different color scheme but all include essentially the same patterns. Like the common areas of the hotel, the matching patterned chairs, sofa beds, and drapes date the style a bit. The wood furniture and headboards are in good condition, but the artwork on the walls is a tad ho-hum. The soundproofed rooms have bathrobes and slippers in addition to air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Bidets and heated towel racks are in every bathroom; however, styles vary depending on the room. Some bathrooms have updated counter tops while others only have plain white pedestal sinks. The pinkish-white tile in these bathrooms makes them seem older and there are no tubs in any -- only showers. Guests mention that some rooms have exterior noise.
