Bottom Line

The Hotel Posta has an exceptional location in downtown Palermo and is within walking distance of numerous attractions, shops, and restaurants. Since 1921, the same family has owned this hotel and the fourth-generation owners provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Some of the common areas are a touch dated, but rooms are clean and modern with flat-screen TVs and soft lighting. All rooms have balconies with views of the surrounding rooftops and alleys. There are 24-hour concierge and room services, free Wi-Fi and breakfast, and a free shuttle to the seasonal beach. The Wi-Fi is a bit spotty, though and there is a fee for on-site parking.

Scene

A historic, family-run hotel

The same family has run the Hotel Posta since its creation in 1921 and it shows. The fourth-generation owners have created a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the 20th century building and the lobby is mostly contemporary and well-lit. The breakfast room has a lot of photos that give the space a homey feel. Some of the common areas are on the dated side; the TV room and breakfast room have pale peach and yellow paint mixed with boring red furniture, and the bar’s wood looks like it has seen better days. Because of the central location, there isn’t any outdoor space, but the exterior arch of the building’s entry is lovely.

Location

In downtown Palermo, within walking distance of attractions, shops, and restaurants

The Hotel Posta is located on a small street in the city’s historic district. It’s across the street from an archeological museum and within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and many attractions including Galleria Regionale della Sicilia, Martorana, and Piazza Politeama. Public transportation can get you anywhere in Palermo and a rental car is only necessary if you plan on leaving the city.

Rooms

Simple yet modern rooms with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning

Rooms are much more modern than the common areas with fresh white linens, nice mood lighting, and updated white furniture. "Simple yet contemporary" also applies to the paint design and wispy yellow drapes. Despite some rooms being smaller than others, all make good use of available space. Some rooms have washer/dryers and beautiful tile, while all rooms have flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. Most bathrooms are modern with white tile, black countertops, and wood doors, but others have dated pink tile and lack counter space due to pedestal sinks. All bathrooms have bidets and showers, but no tubs. Balconies are also standard and have views of the surrounding alleys and rooftops.

Features

Free Wi-Fi and breakfast; seasonal private beach access

Although the Hotel Posta doesn’t have fitness or business centers, it has a TV room with a piano in the corner. There is a free breakfast that receives great reviews and there is a cozy on-site bar. Free Wi-Fi is available, but only in public areas, and the connection can be spotty. From July 15th to September 15th there is private beach access with Mondello Resort and a free shuttle to the area; however, the beach costs 20 euros for two people to access. There are 24-hour concierge and room services in addition to on-site parking; parking costs a fee, though.
