Bottom Line

The Club Marmara Sicilia is a mid-range hotel near the Belice Nature Reserve in Selinunte. Though breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included with the price of the room (food is basic), expect extra fees for use of the well-maintained swimming pools, recreational facilities, and beach. The resort caters mostly to families and larger tour groups who are looking for a beach vacation without leaving the property. Some rooms have an efficiency style kitchen hidden in a large cupboard, but the space is dated and bland.

Scene

Large resort near the Belice River

The Club Marmara Sicilia caters mainly to groups of French tourists. Signs are posted in French and the staff is fluent in French. The property is spread out with some rooms closer to the recreational facilities and restaurants than others. The beach is sandy with natural dunes and brush. Most activities and the restaurant are outdoors (with overhead protection in the dining room) so the weather can make or break the stay. Olive and palm trees make the space feel both tropical and Italian.

Location

In an urban neighborhood near the Belice Nature Reserve

The front of the hotel faces a semi-busy urban street with upscale private homes and Italian style traffic. In the back, it's just a short walk down a natural path to the sand dunes of the Belice River and nearby nature reserve, which keeps the rugged beauty of the area protected and pristine. The Palermo airport is about an hour's drive away.

Rooms

Efficiency kitchens and pull-out sofa beds

Families and large groups might appreciate kitchens and pull-out beds in the superior rooms. A large cupboard hides a mini-frdige, microwave, and small cooking range though dishes and cookware aren't supplied. Rooms are large but look dated with worn tile floors. Decently sized bathrooms are basic with single white sinks and showers. Bright canvas photographs of the beach add some much needed color to the white walls. Balconies with interior views of the property, and the water in the distance, are a nice touch.

Features

Two pools, all-inclusive restaurant, and the beach

Features at Club Marmara Sicilia emphasize the location's warm weather and beach access. The recreational facilities are top notch and well-maintained. There's a kid's club with daily activities for little ones, including an archery area, grass tennis court, and a soccer field. Two outdoor pools include a snack bar and space for kids, with plenty of blue sun loungers (though an extra fee is charged to use them). Dunes and the beach are accessible via a short path. Once there, you'll find white sun loungers with umbrellas and a lifeguard. Meals and house wine at the Mediterranean style indoor/outdoor restaurant are included in the price of the room and get mixed reviews.
