The 302-room Movenpick Resort Sharm El Sheikh is a three-and-a-half-pearl property with private beaches and high-perched positioning overlooking Naama Bay. Leisure travelers come here for the gorgeous views, snorkel-friendly coral shores, and large pool with kiddy section, but expansive grounds can mean a fair bit of walking and steps. Arabian-influenced interiors are found in the comfortable rooms with kettles, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. However, their traditional decor is showing wear and tear. Multiple restaurants and bars offer well-reviewed fare, plus there are a spa, ample sports facilities, and activities and entertainment for both kids and families. With less steps to navigate, the Park Inn by Radisson Sharm El Sheikh Resort is a good alternative.
Scene
Family-friendly resort with four private beaches
The resort's classically arched whitewashed structures overlook vast lawns, flower-lined paths, and the lotus-shaped outdoor pool from their cascading hillside setting. The four private beaches are the biggest draw here, though, and are excellent for snorkeling, diving, or sunbathing. Largely bland, earth-toned interiors are less impressive than the expansive exterior, though intricately carved wood, decorative tiling, and stained glass add Moorish charm. Fountain-flanked courtyards and stacked-stone walkways match upscale dining and amenities, all of which are extensive. On the downside, prepare for long walks, many steps, and limitations with some all-inclusive packages -- they don't cover premium liquors, the Horizon Bar, and some a la carte dining.
Location
Beachfront setting, a short drive from Naama Bay's offerings
Travelers often choose this hotel specifically for its beach setting, and with four private beaches to choose from, they don't get crowded. Jettied, sandy, rocky, or coral-filled options are fantastic for spotting tropical fish, and the on-site diving center is popular (fees apply). Guests are somewhat isolated here, as Naama Bay's buzzing nightlife is a six-minute drive away -- many visitors opt for the 25-minute paved walkway leading into town instead. Vibrant bars and clubs are found here. Sharm Old Town and the region's other entertainment hotspot, SOHO Square, is a 16-minute drive. Sharm El Sheikh International Airport is 12 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Traditional rooms show wear, but some offer fabulous views
Renovated in 2010, rooms have Moorish charm with arches, copper or lantern fixtures, carved-wood furniture, and silver or gold-accented fabrics. However, they're showing wear and tear, and could use an update. All have furnished balconies that overlook the pools and/or the sea (in upgraded categories). The 258-square-foot (24-square-meter) Classic and Deluxe Rooms offer partial or full sea views, while sea views are guaranteed in Suites that also have living rooms. Spanning 2799 to 3983 square feet (260 to 370 square meters), split-level, three-bedroom Villas have kitchens, marble floors, and private pools.Phones, desks, cable flat-screen TVs, minibars, kettles alongside tea and coffee, hairdryers, slippers, and robes come standard. Honey-marble or blue-mosaic bathrooms have rainfall showers or shower/tub combos, or jetted tubs in top-tier units. Toiletries, air-conditioning, bottled water, and free (but often weak) Wi-Fi are also provided.
Features
Four private beaches, and fun for all ages
Extensive features here enhance the resort feel, with many areas (and the four beaches) making the most of spectacular views, from sunrise to sunset. Most of the 10 bars and restaurants offer galleried, terrace, or poolside al fresco seating, although all-inclusive packages have their limits: a la carte eateries aren't always included, premium liquors aren't part of the deal, and ice cream limitations apply. Horizon Bar's consumption is also excluded, although views right over the bay here make it a favorite. Dining options consists of buffet breakfasts and themed meals, gourmet Indian, and Egyptian, while nightly amphitheater or Zeno Cafe shows keep things animated. The large outdoor pool has sun-drenched terraces with cushioned loungers and umbrellas. Kids are well-catered to with a playground, big kiddy section of the pool, colorful kids' club with Finding Nemo decor, foosball, and games. The diving and equestrian center, which are at a fee, are also popular with adults. Four tennis courts and a fitness center with Technogym equipment, but no free weights, are available. The spa is traditionally outfitted in marble and wood, and it offers treatments, a sauna, steam room, Turkish hammam, whirlpool, and hair salon. A function room holds 180 people and is mostly used for weddings. There's also a 24-hour business center, concierge, and security, plus a gift shop. Pets are not permitted. Parking and Wi-Fi throughout the property are free.
