The 61-room La Digue
Island Lodge is a three-pearl property located on the lovely white-sand Anse Reunion Beach. Lodging options vary from genteel, plantation-style hotel rooms to thatched-roof chalets set among the gardens. One of the
island’s first hotels, the Lodge maintains a strong sense of island history and
local Creole culture, while offering modern conveniences, top-notch spa
services, a PADI dive center, and a swim-up pool bar, among other
luxuries. Wi-Fi, while free, is only available at the reception area. Travelers looking for something more intimate could try the mid-range Chateau St Cloud with just 25 rooms.
Scene
A rustic, natural setting with traditional Creole style and nautical decor
La Digue Island Lodge is a comfortable and unpretentious Creole-style enclave set among lush tropical gardens that are so thick that they obscure views of the chalets. The Lodge is filled with local
character and the gorgeous setting outside is incorporated into the decor. The lobby features beautiful woods and a stone reception desk with
ship parts as decorative touches, including a large propeller. Overall, the feel is warm and welcoming, especially in the main restaurant, which has a sandy floor that invites
bare feet. The chairs and tables are made from wood that looks weathered by the
sea air, and the outdoor terrace is right by the edge of the surf. Even the spa is done in a rustic vein,
with lots of warm woods and fresh flowers.
Location
On the beach, a 10-minute walk from the port village of La Passe, nestled in tropical gardens
La Digue Island Lodge sits on a small white-sand beach, a three-minute walk from the inter-island ferry. The Lodge is up a hill, but transfers can
be arranged from the port in advance for those with lots of luggage or any mobility issues. The property's beach is shallow, and the visibility isn’t
great for snorkelers, but there are plenty of beautiful beaches within a 10-minute bicycle ride. Nid Aigle -- La Digue’s highest
point, with stunning panoramic views -- is a half-hour walk from the hotel. The center of the village, is a 10-minute walk, and the hotel also offers free minibus transportation. The island
is forty minutes by boat from Praslin, where the nearest airport is located.
Rooms
Charming A-frames, plantation-style verandahs, and Creole decor
Rooms at La Digue Island Lodge come in a
wide variety of set-ups, from charming, thatched wooden chalets to beachfront A-frames, to
more run-of-the-mill beach house rooms with genteel plantation-style balconies. Family rooms are also available. The hotel's Yellow House -- built in the 1900s -- is a designated Seychelles national monument that houses nine small rooms with double beds and spiral staircases down to the bathrooms. All units have balconies or patios with lovely garden or ocean views as well as white walls, wood trim, and pretty wood furniture. Some bathrooms have separate tubs and small walk-in showers; others have been updated and have luxury walk-in showers with
skylights, river rocks, and stylish tiles and fixtures. Amenities include air-conditioning, minibars, safes, free toiletries, and TVs with satellite channels, although reception can be spotty. Some
of the rooms are located a long walk from reception and the restaurant,
but there's a free shuttle between locations.

restaurant, Veuve, serves
Creole cuisine and local seafood, as well as a free morning breakfast buffet

serves light lunches and specializes in whole grilled fish. There's also a cocktail lounge with gorgeous views that's open after dinner for socializing. The pool is large,
with a dedicated children’s section and a swim-up bar. It's surrounded by sun beds and beach umbrellas, and includes a swim-up bar and a thatched palapa. The beach is also lined with
umbrellas and sun beds (which may need to be claimed early in the day to ensure
a spot). Guests can also rent bikes from the front
desk and head to one of the other nearby beaches. The cozy spa offers a full
menu of treatments, including aromatherapy, Ayurvedic treatments, massage, facials, body wraps, and scrubs, but appointments can book up fast. The on site PADI dive center offers snorkeling, fishing
