Part of the Spanish-Belgian Silken chain, the 623-room Silken Al-Andalus Palace Hotel is a huge hotel located two miles outside the Seville City Center. Public transportation is necessary to reach the city's major points of interest. There is a big outdoor pool with nice landscaping and plenty of lounge space, along with a small on-site gym. Rooms vary in design -- some on the designer floor were beautifully decorated by Seville designers Victorio & Lucchino -- while others are simple and somewhat generic. Some guests complain about the isolated location and lack of personal service.
Scene
Huge hotel, popular with conferences
The Silken Al-Andalus Palace Hotel looks like a conference center or sports stadium from the outside, with large curved glass wall and imposing size. The grounds, gardens, and pool offer lots of room for wandering and there are lounge chairs or "chill out beds" for baking in the Mediterranean sun with a sangria from the poolside snack bar. The soaring glass lobby atrium features a red hanging sculpture that resembles a bullfighter's cape, and there is a bronze statue of a bullfighter's jacket nearby. The modern aesthetic with touches of classical Spanish red and gold along with scattered contemporary works of art give the hotel's public spaces, bars, and restaurants a refined side.
Location
Two miles from city center, close to Parque de Maria Luisa
The Silken Al-Andalus Palace Hotel is located two miles from Seville's city center (public buses stop right outside to take guests downtown). With this isolated location, the hotel does offer spacious grounds and a big pool. The Benito Villamarin football stadium, home of team Real Betis, is visible from the hotel. The historic Parque de Maria Luisa, Seville's largest park and botanical garden -- with resident parrots and a Moorish style series of fountains, pavilions, and more -- is nearby.
Rooms
Room decor varies; some decorated by local fashion designers
Rooms at the Al-Andalus Palace Hotel vary greatly. Some rooms face the hotel's interior -- try and request a room with a pool view for natural light. Powerade Sports Rooms have en-suite exercise equipment. Nine suites have been designed and furnished by Seville designers Victorio & Lucchino (with wide plank floors, glass tiled bathrooms, incredible freestanding tubs, and Eastern and Moorish-style furniture and objets d'art -- along with a private check-in) but other rooms are more basic without much decoration or polish.
Features
Large pool with fun bar, conference center, and beautiful gardens
The highlight of the Silken Al-Andalus Palace Hotel is its large pool with surrounding sun beds and poolside bar, open seasonally from April to October. The hotel's gardens are beautifully landscaped. The fitness center is small with a few cardio machines. The lobby bar and piano bar are nice places to relax, and the hotel restaurants offer regional and Mediterranean cuisine. The breakfast buffet at the Cafeteria El Rocio serves continental and hot breakfast food (but lacks vegetarian options). The hotel has many excellent options for meetings and special events, both outdoor and indoor.
