Decor is attractive but lacks the "wow" factor
Sometimes travelers crave a familiar name in a foreign city, and this upper-middle-range 140-room Hilton-family hotel -- situated in a business-oriented section of northern Seville -- certainly fits that bill. The contemporary rooms, consistent with brand standards, are clean, comfortable and comparatively spacious. Better yet, the property’s perks include not only free Wi-Fi, a business center and a restaurant, but bonuses that are hard to find in urban European accommodations, among them a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and on-site parking. The trade-off is that this well-priced Garden Inn outpost lacks local color and its isolated suburban location isn't particularly tourist friendly. Visitors that find those downsides a deal-breaker would be better off booking a pricier alternatives such as the Hotel Casa 1800 Sevilla.
Scene
A quiet, self-contained chain hotel targeted largely at business types
The building this hotel occupies -- one in a row of squat, boxy towers -- is just the sort you would expect to see in a modern, well-maintained business park. Potted trees on its terrace help soften all of the surrounding concrete, and a handsome lobby enlivened by artsy metal accents and bright pops of color sets a welcoming tone. Yet the Hilton Garden Inn Sevilla unmistakably remains part of a multinational chain, and therein lies its appeal for many people -- including the business travelers who make up a large percentage of the clientele. Belonging to a trusted brand, it delivers a reassuring level of contemporary comfort that older, more character-filled establishments in the city can’t necessarily provide.
Location
In workaday Parque Empresarial Nuevo Torneo, 15 minutes by car from the heart of Old Seville
Seville's Parque Empresarial Nuevo Torneo is a business park -- not a leafy green one -- and nobody would call it charming. Shops, eateries and similar services are in short supply here; moreover, Casco Antiguo, the city’s historic core, is at least a 15-minute drive away. So visitors hoping to see key sites (like the suitably divine Seville Cathedral and gorgeous Alcázar palace) or indulge in some retail therapy along Calle Sierpes (the city’s main shopping strip) will likely have to rely on a rental car, a cab, or the hotel’s free scheduled shuttle. On the upside, the Hilton Garden Inn Sevilla’s location is quiet. It is also convenient for guests doing business in the neighborhood or those wishing easy access to either the international airport or the main train station, which is served by AVE high-speed trains.- 12-minute drive to San Pablo Sevilla International Airport
Rooms
Contemporary, though somewhat conventional, accommodations that meet brand expectations
There’s nothing in these rooms that screams “you’re in Spain.” On the contrary, guests could be waking up almost anywhere -- and for many that is precisely the point. Decorated in earthy tones, each has bare wood floors, matching headboards, clean-lined furniture and crisp white linens. The end result is attractive but a tad generic. Desks with ergonomic chairs and adjustable lamps let business travelers work in comfort, while blackout curtains and signature Serta Suite Dreams Beds with 250-thread count sheets and non-allergenic feather pillows ensure a good night’s sleep. The bright bathrooms feature stylish vessel sinks, conveniently large vanities and sizable tubs complete with handheld showers. Size-wise, the rooms here range from 258-square foot standards to 592-square foot suites with sofa beds and a separate living area. But adjustable air-conditioning, 32-inch LCD TVs with international channels, minibars, coffee/tea-makers, clock radios with MP3 connections, hairdryers, ironing equipment and free Wi-Fi are standard across all categories. Note that since this is a modern, purpose-built property, it is accessible to guests with mobility issues: specially-designed rooms come with extra-wide doors, roll-in showers and other thoughtful features.
Features
A solid line-up of services for business people, plus perks for garden-variety tourists
Capitalizing on its business-park location, the Hilton Garden Inn Sevilla offers audio-visual equipment rentals and an assortment of meeting spaces in addition to a 24-hour business center with free printers, photocopiers and fax machines. The hotel, however, also caters to families: large doubled-bedded family rooms (which can accommodate a rollaway cot and crib on request) are available, as are babysitting services.On-site dining and recreational/fitness facilities appeal to both groups. The former includes the Garden Grille, a cheery restaurant that serves regional and international cuisine (children's menus are offered and a cooked-to-order breakfast is free with some booking options). In-room diners can order room service or pick-up a microwaveable meal in the small Pavilion Pantry; drinks afterwards can be enjoyed in the Garden Bar or on the rather bland terrace. For fun and fitness, guests can take advantage of a well-equipped 24-hour workout room, a grass paddle-tennis court, and a standard-issue pool (open seasonally) with adjacent lawn and loungers. Other hotel amenities include a front desk with multilingual staff, currency exchange services, laundry services, underground parking, a free shuttle to the city center and free Wi-Fi.
