Scene

A Belle Époque landmark with modern luxuries

The gorgeous Belle Époque exterior of Meliá Colón is a Seville landmark. The interior is just as exquisite, decorated in whites, reds, and golds, with great attention paid to honoring the city's cultural heritage. Meliá Colón combines careful restoration with contemporary furnishings by Philippe Starck, Marcel Wanders, and Edra, and the venue’s various restaurants and bars are popular gathering places for locals. The elegant lobby's centerpiece -- known as El Albero, after the sand in the center of a bullfighting ring -- is a glass and iron dome over a lush, round, red sofa and accompanying red chairs with a modernist twist.Guestroom doors feature painted artwork framed in gold, with hallway lighting evoking a gallery feel. Placards throughout the property offer historical tidbits, making a visit to Meliá Colón a step into Seville's past.

Location

In the city center, near sights, restaurants, and shopping as well as Seville Cathedral

Meliá Colón sits almost directly in Seville's city center, surrounded by eateries and high-end shopping streets. A 10-minute walk from the Real Maestranza bull ring, the hotel is a destination in itself, but guests will have no problem making the rounds of the city's best restaurants and tapas bars, or strolling to Seville Cathedral. The location is ideal, and the hotel itself captures the spirit of the city’s cultural history.

Rooms

Refined and elegant with gold leaf headboards and showpiece bathrooms

Each guestroom floor is dedicated to a different painter from Seville's Golden Age. Doors to the romantic guestrooms at Meliá Colón are painted to look like framed masterworks by some of the city's great artists, including Velázquez, El Greco, and Goya. Decor is elegant and modern, with white furniture and gold leaf headboards. Bathrooms are done in black marble, and some have glass walls (with curtains) that offer views into bedrooms. The plumbing is up to date and stylish as well.Rooms have flat-screen TVs and stocked minibars. Some have terraces, some have hot tubs, and some even have terraces with outdoor hot tubs.

Features

Three fine Andalusian restaurants, a wellness center, and a sun terrace

Gran Meliá Colón's three restaurants share a bullfighting theme, but offer variations on Andalusian cuisine. El Burladero serves tapas and an assortment of fine wines. El Tendido offers cocktails, snacks, and excellent pastries. The Majestic is an international buffet. All three are popular city meeting points. The hotel's wellness center has a pretty sun terrace with panoramic views, lounge chairs, and an outdoor whirlpool. The gym itself is small, with four cardio machines and a rack of free weights. Meeting rooms for business travelers are creatively decorated. Meliá Colón also has RedLevel, a boutique hotel within the larger hotel, with added amenities for those who choose the upgrade.
