Bottom Line

The three-and-a-half-pearl Casa Romana Hotel Boutique is right in the heart of Seville's old town, within easy walking distance of the city's top shopping and attractions. It has a pretty Andalusian style that ranges from traditional to modern. However, the 26 rooms are a bit hit and miss. Some are small or have windows onto the interior atrium, but all have a classic finish, and the higher-grade rooms offer extras like Nespresso machines, leafy terraces, or street-side balconies. The seasonal rooftop terrace is a hotel highlight, with a whirlpool, tapas restaurant, and resident DJ, plus superb city views. The Hotel Don Paco is a decent alternative, with a larger rooftop pool -- though it's farther outside of the city center, and lacks the style and artistic touches.

Scene

Charming Andalusian boutique hotel with plenty of decorative touches and an urban-style rooftop terrace

The Casa Romana Hotel Boutique has a traditional Andalusian style, with artistic touches throughout. This includes details ranging from terra-cotta framed windows, stone archways, and beautiful carvings, to checkered floors and intricately patterned wall tiles. It's situated on a narrow street in the heart of Seville, and some of the hotel is arranged around an interior courtyard -- with table seating and greenery around the landing on each floor -- which provides plenty of natural light through its large skylight. The rooftop terrace has a more contemporary urban style, with brightly colored lighting, pockets of seating on different levels, and superb views across the city. A pretty wrought-iron arch leads to the open-air whirlpool. There's a quiet, peaceful atmosphere here, and guests tend to be tourists of all types -- mostly couples, but also small family and friend groups.

Location

In Seville's old town, within walking distance of shopping, dining and attractions

Casa Romana Hotel Boutique sits on one of Seville's narrow streets -- Calle Trajano -- in one of the older parts of the city. There are several restaurants and bars in the immediate area, and it's a five-minute walk to Calle Sierpes, the city's top shopping area. Ten minutes on foot leads to the popular art gallery Hospital Los Venerables, and about the same to Las Setas viewing point. The impressive Seville Cathedral -- the third largest in the world -- is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. It's a 15-minute drive to the Alcazar, the famed ninth-century palace complex, or about 25 minutes for travelers who enjoy exploring on foot. Santa Justa Station is a 15-minute drive, and Seville Airport is 25 minutes away. There are buses to both destinations from Calle Campana -- a four-minute walk from the hotel -- which take around 20 and 75 minutes to reach, respectively.

Rooms

Classical style and a range of sizes, some with terraces or Juliet balconies and Nespresso machines

Rooms have a classic look, with rich gold and cream tones, ornate fabrics, gorgeous oil paintings, and antique-style furniture. Though the style is consistent throughout the hotel, room sizes vary considerably even within a single given categories. As such, it's worth noting that some rooms can be small or only have windows onto the atrium landings. Standard features flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars, free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning -- though previous guests have found this a bit ineffective. Deluxe Rooms and Junior Suites add Nespresso coffee machines. Some Superior Rooms have pleasant outdoor enclosed patios, while most Deluxe Rooms have street-side Juliet balconies (though the flip-side of that perk may be street noise). Junior Suites add additional sitting areas, and open onto pretty semi-private rooftop terraces. Bathrooms across the board feature hairdryers, toiletries, a tub and separate shower, with Deluxe Rooms adding jetted tubs. All bathrooms have a simple finish, with cream tiling and walls, and traditional artwork.

Features

Restaurant serving buffet breakfast plus a seasonal rooftop terrace with tapas restaurant, bar, and whirlpool

Features aren't numerous here, though they're on par with what's offered at most mid- and upper-middle-range properties in central Seville. The Casa Romana Hotel Boutique's RoomZero long narrow restaurant is set off the main lobby, and serves a buffet breakfast -- mostly cold items and toast, with a small selection of hot food. There's a seasonal rooftop bar/restaurant, ROOF, which has a good tapas menu, three levels of seating with great city views, a resident DJ, and an outdoor whirlpool. Additional sofa seating is available in the lobby lounge, and there's a nice atrium with tables. The lobby also houses a jewelry store and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
