Flamboyant resort-style decor won't be to everyone's tastes
The charm and spunk of legendary singer Dolly Parton is channeled into this three-and-a-half-pearl resort attached to the amusement park Dollywood. Family-friendly to the core, the resort holds an endless array of amenities and facilities that make it unnecessary to leave the premises for anything, although free shuttles do run to downtown Pigeon Forge. On-site features include multiple restaurants, pools, game rooms, a gym, and a spa. Although its 300 guest rooms are spacious and include plenty of design frills there's little beyond the standard amenities. But guests with kids will certainly appreciate the bunk beds in several rooms. For something a bit more straightforward and private, travelers could consider The Inn on the River.
Scene
A resort with plenty of Southern style and family bustle
Like the Dollywood theme park right next door, the DreamMore resort is primarily designed with families in mind, offering a boatload of amenities and facilities. The idea is to keep travelers young and old busy around the clock without ever leaving the premises, and it certainly succeeds. While Dollywood generates much of the bustle, the resort drums this up with a “swimming hole” that features a cascading waterfall on one end, gift shop, spa, salon, multiple restaurants serving Southern cuisine, arcade, and playroom for kids, not to mention the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame. The buzz never dies. Parton's famously chipper personality sets the tone for the decor, as emphasized by a large portrait of her caught in mid-laugh in the lobby. Throughout the common areas and rooms, flowery and frilly Southern elements are on full display, including fringed sofas, striped armchairs, and silver platters hung on the wall. The look could either be considered utterly charming or borderline tacky, depending on perspective. A faux front porch with multiple rocking chairs adds to the Southern fantasy, not to mention the giant fountain-statue out front of guitars surrounded by butterflies.
Location
Self-contained resort in the Great Smoky Mountains
Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and amusement park is a world unto itself, covering more than 100 acres -- including a water park. The resort offers little reason to leave, and on-site shuttles cover any local transport needs. However, there’s plenty of nearby attractions within short driving distance. Dolly Parton fans may also appreciate that her story began just 10 miles to the east, in a small cabin in Locust Ridge, Tennessee, at the northern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains. The nearest airport, Knoxville Tyson Mcghee Regional Airport, is about an hour’s drive from Pigeon Forge. No public transport runs between the two, but local buses connect the resort with Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. - Six-minute drive to Old Mill
Rooms
Standard resort-style rooms with extra space and bunk beds
Guest rooms continue to channel Dolly Parton's signature Southern warmth and charm through pops of color and a butterfly motif. Filigreed mirrors, scalloped headboards, and lampshades printed with the word "Dream" add to their appeal. But underneath these cheerful flourishes, rooms are fairly standard, chain-hotel spaces typical for a family-focused resort. That said, they do offer more space than most, and along with king and queen beds, several rooms offer bunk beds for kids. In-room amenities are solid as well, with 42-inch flat-screen TVs with cable, mini-fridges, safes, coffeemakers, charging stations, and free Wi-Fi. Irons and portable cribs are available upon request. Bathrooms also stick to the basics, with hairdryers, complimentary toiletries, and small showers or shower/bath combos. Higher-category rooms add sofas and seating areas.
Features
A huge range of amenities, including amusement park, pools, and spa
As part of a mega-resort complex, complete with an amusement park, the DreamMore is stuffed with features and facilities -- probably too many to enjoy in one visit. Much of the fun here is family-focused, and kids can enjoy pools, playgrounds, arcade games, and story time around the fireplace, all on top of Dollywood itself. Even the spa offers treatments for them, including the “total teen facial.” The resort has two pools: One enormous "swimming hole" with a waterfall feature on one end and a zero-entry slope on the other. A "family splash pad" gives a spot for tots to make a ruckus, while the outdoor hot tub provides a respite for adults. A second indoor pool in the Garden House is heated year around. Plenty of floaties are available to borrow, and pools also have professional lifeguards on duty. For dining, the property has three different dining venues and all are low-key, from the grab-and-go DM Pantry to the casual Lounge. The Song & Hearth "southern eatery" adds a bit more atmosphere to its dining room and a full buffet. However, not all rates include breakfast. Beyond teen treatments, the spa has an extensive menu of massages, nail services, and facials, and spa parties are typical. There's also a serviceable gym on the premises with a handful of treadmills and other cardio machines along with free weights.Other features include a laundry room, a gift shop, and free shuttle service to and from the fun park and nearby Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Wi-Fi is free throughout, as is self-parking; valet parking is available for an added fee.
