Bottom Line

This large resort within walking distance of Disneyland Paris is conveniently close to the park, but also acts as its own nexus of entertainment. Thematically decorated rooms are heavily slanted to appeal to children, and some have planets and stars painted on the ceiling. There is a large covered pool with a system of water slides, an XD (Extreme Digital format) theater, and a game room. The food at the restaurants, which tends towards the quick and simple, is also geared towards children. Multiple guests have noted that the Explorers Hotel can get very crowded, to the point of overwhelming the staff and taxing the facilities, particularly during school breaks.

Scene

A Disney-style concrete castle from the outside; a massive, slightly institutional play center on the inside

This massive property makes the most of its indoor space to provide play areas for the hordes of children who visit regularly. Families with kids seem to enjoy the thematic aesthetics at every turn, including the check-in desk shaped like a pirate’s ship, the large sculpture of a dragon in the lobby, and the faux palm trees shading an indoor play area on the main floor. The grounds also include a lake large enough to jog around. Multiple guests have noted that while rooms are generally kept clean, trash is a common site in the hallways, possibly due to the large number of children.

Location

A short walk or a shuttle transfer from the RER station Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy

The hotel is a short shuttle bus ride from the regional transport station in front of Disneyland Paris. Total travel time from Paris proper is about one hour. Total travel time from the hotel to Disneyland Paris on the shuttle is about 15 minutes. It's also possible to walk between the hotel and the park (about 25 minutes).

Rooms

Thematically decorated but slightly worn rooms

Delightfully themed rooms are a big draw here. Some rooms have stars and planets painted on the ceiling; jungle rooms have walls painted with reeds and wicker bed frames. A number of guests have noted that, the rooms here, while generally clean, have seen better days --there have been reports of dilapidated furniture in particular. The rooms here do not have air-conditioning, and the Wi-Fi can be spotty.

Features

A large number of play areas, a swimming pool, and some meeting rooms

The hotel’s two most popular features are its massive swimming pool with a water slide, and its indoor play room. There are a number of fast-food and cafe-style eateries within the hotel, as well as a buffet restaurant. There's also a video game arcade and a tiny gym with a handful of weight machines. An XD (Extreme Digital Cinema) theater provides a sensory addition to the movie experience, but tends to screen films that have been out for a while. Children seem to love the entertainment options, although they can be a little overrun at peak times. Note that as with many swimming pools in Europe, brief-style sports swimsuits are required for males here.
