Sedona's Poco Diablo Resort is an upper-middle-range property with plenty of outdoor amenities aimed at guests looking for a quiet but active vacation. For many guests, the property's biggest draw is its nine-hole golf course, and it also has tennis courts, an outdoor pool, full-service spa, and a large fitness center. Scene

Quiet Southwestern-style hotel in suburban Sedona

On the outskirts of Sedona, the Poco Diablo Resort is popular with families, couples looking for a romantic getaway, and pretty much anyone who wants to spend their vacation engaged in outdoor activities such as tennis and golf. The sand-colored buildings that make up this spacious 137-room property blend into the local red rock landscape quite well. Potted flowers and a sprawling grassy golf course add pops of color to the otherwise desert-hued surroundings. The lobby has olive and brown walls, wooden beams, and Southwestern art, as well as a few low seats for guests checking in. The hotel added an outdoor fireplace, with alfresco seating, after our visit. The hotel is owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Indian Tribe, although it's not on the reservation.

Location

In a residential area, five minutes from the center of Sedona and 10 minutes from the airport

The Poco Diablo is located on Highway 89A, which can get busy at times but is generally quiet and safe. Guests will need a car as the area is primarily residential, and there aren't any sights, shops, or restaurants within reasonable walking distance. Shopping and dining in Sedona is only five minutes away by car, and the airport is a 10-minute drive away without traffic.

Rooms

Rooms with air-conditioning and mini-fridges; some with terraces

The air-conditioned rooms at the Poco Diablo Resort are simple but comfortable, and all have beige and olive-green walls, light-wood furniture, and king or queen beds with fluffy white pillows. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges, and some come with fireplaces and/or terraces overlooking the golf course. Bathrooms are small but modern and some have tubs. Wi-Fi is free and room service is available during the day. Designated dog-friendly rooms are available with wood laminated floors and dog beds.

Features

Many activities including a nine-hole golf course and four tennis courts, plus restaurant and bar

The Poco Diablo's amenities are what draw mosts guests here, and include a sprawling nine-hole golf course, four tennis courts, and a large gym with a wide range of equipment. There's also a heated outdoor swimming pool with a whirlpool that's surrounded by cushioned lounge chairs and tables with parasols. The on-site T. Carl’s Restaurant serves American food and Southwestern specialities for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the 10th Hole Bar & Lounge serves pizza and pub fare along with cocktails. A yoga class is held here a couple of times per week. The hotel added a full-service spa, with three treatment rooms and a nail and hair salon, after our visit.
