Scene

A friendly, open-concept home with touches of southwestern decor

This bed-and-breakfast is situated in a modern, two-story house that looks in every way like a home rather than a commercial property. The entrance is via concrete steps around the private red-brick garage, which occupies the ground floor. The “lobby” is the comfortable living room, nicely decorated with southwestern-themed knickknacks, soft gray couches and armchairs, a beautiful oak coffee table, and a gas fireplace. The floor is an open-concept, and the adjacent dining area is composed of wooden tables -- one four-top and a pair of two-tops -- and dark leather chairs. Also on this floor are an Apple computer and printer for guest use, a mini-fridge, microwave, DVD library, and free snacks -- including popcorn. A small balcony with a couple of Adirondack chairs is available for guests, and there is a pair of friendly bulldogs that can be seen wandering around the premises. Many guests are couples, though anyone over the age of 13 (kids aren't allowed) seeking a cozy getaway without the hustle and bustle of the city may enjoy this property.

Location

In a residential neighborhood two miles from downtown Seattle

The property is located in a residential neighborhood just a few blocks away from Interstate 90, meaning that car access to surrounding areas is seamless. There's a park two blocks east of the property, and a few restaurants are within a couple of minutes walk west. It is a 20-minute walk to the International District, 30 minutes on foot to Safeco and CenturyLink Fields, and a 25-minute walk to Lake Washington. Downtown is a seven-minute drive, 20-minute bus ride, or 35-minute walk. Pike Place Market is 20 minutes via public transportation, or a 10-minute drive. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is about a 25-minute drive, or an hour and 20 minutes via bus/monorail.

Rooms

Comfortable and well-equipped, with great bathrooms and American location-themed decor

There are just four rooms at the Sleeping Bulldog, each decorated with an American locale in mind: Western, Santa Fe, Northwest, and New Orleans. Each room has a Keurig coffeemaker, flat-screen TV, DVD player, and iHome radio. The private bathrooms are well-equipped -- features vary from jetted tubs to acupressure floors to rainfall showerheads. Decor is fairly classic, combining simple wood furniture and cozy earth-toned couches with some kitschy, Americana touches. The Northwest Suite on the home's garden level sleeps up to four guests, and has a separate living room and full kitchen with top-notch modern appliances: stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, full stove, and oven. The New Orleans room features a fireplace, balcony, and two-person jetted tub.

Features

Fresh breakfast with homemade baked muffins and warm dishes; free Wi-Fi and street parking

A stay at this cozy bed-and-breakfast includes a large, homemade breakfast with fresh juice, freshly ground coffee, tea, muffins, cereal, yogurt, and bread, plus a daily warm dish -- which sometimes includes eggs sourced from resident chickens. There is free Wi-Fi in rooms and throughout the premises, and a computer and printer are available for guest use. There are snacks (popcorn and granola bars) and non-alcoholic beverages available all day, and fresh cookies in the afternoon. Free parking is available on the residential streets that surround the property. There are two bulldogs on the property -- so those with allergies should take note. No outside pets are allowed. The property owners are extremely friendly and helpful, and offer personalized travel tips.
