Scene

Four-pearl inn housed in a converted 18th-century corn mill with attractive, contemporary interiors

True to its name, the Old Mill Inn is housed in a
former corn mill that dates to the 18th century, and still
retains a fully functioning water wheel and stream running alongside the
property. The charming stone building is conveniently located off
Pitlochry’s main street, and plenty of locals, along with guests, frequent its lively bar and restaurant, which makes for a friendly and welcoming
atmosphere. Interiors are contemporary and elegant,
with a mostly neutral color palette paired with crimson hues. The restaurant
features wood furnishings paired with wood floors and stone accent walls
illuminated by large windows. Tartan-patterned rugs and chairs are a nice
little nod to its Scottish heritage. There is plenty of seating about the property, including cozy booths, individual tables, and comfortable armchairs in the bar, as well as
a lovely outdoor area full of picnic tables and wicker furniture.

Location

Located off Pitlochry’s main street, and a short walk to train station, restaurants, pubs, and shops

The hotel is located in the Victorian town of Pitlochry, a
popular tourist area with many hotels and inns nearby. The scenic
surroundings of beautiful hills and mountains include Ben Vrackie, just north of
the town. Situated off the main street, the inn offers a convenient, central
location that is within a short walk of many shops, restaurants, and bars. The
train and bus stations are a five-minute walk away. The area makes a great base
for exploring the gorgeous scenery of Highland Perthshire, and attracts a wide range of travelers, including solo voyagers, couples, and families. There are many hiking trails in the area, and golfing at the nearby Pitlochry Golf Course. Nearby sights include the beautiful Blair Castle and its gardens (a 13-minute
drive) and nearby whiskey distilleries, such as the Edradour Distillery
(seven-minute drive) or the Blair Atholl Distillery (two-minute drive or a 13-minute walk). Edinburgh is about an hour and a half drive away.

Rooms

Spacious, modern rooms with attractive decor; Deluxe Rooms have extra features

Rooms are decorated in neutral colors, such as  gray, beige, and subtle gold. Beds are framed by large
wooden upholstered headboards, and many rooms have lovely patterned wallpaper
accent walls in muted hues. There are two types of rooms available: Standard
Rooms and Deluxe Mill Rooms, which are a bit more plush with a richer decor in cream
and burnished-gold colors. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making
facilities, and free Wi-Fi, but the Deluxe Mill Rooms also add DVD players and
iPod docks, and surround-sound sytems. Standard Room bathrooms are tiled in white, with walk-in
showers and tower warmers. Deluxe Room bathrooms add walk-in
rainfall showers and soaking tubs, underfloor heating, fluffy bathrobes, and high-end toiletries.

Features

Popular bar with live music on weekends, and restaurant serving local fare; free full Scottish breakfast included

The inn’s restaurant serves tasty local fare for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner, and is  popular with locals and guests alike. A full
Scottish breakfast is included in the room rate. Outdoor seating is available
in the warm months on a lovely patio full of picnic tables and wicker
furniture. The adjoining bar serves small bites and bar food, as well as a variety
of cocktails, beers, and wine, and  hosts cocktail master classes. Live
music makes this a lively spot on the weekends. Wi-Fi is free throughout the
