Fisher’s Hotel

Fisher’s Hotel occupies a slice of prime real estate in Pitlochry, situated midway on the town’s main street, amid lovely gardens and immaculate green lawns nestled into an interior courtyard. Traditionally decorated interiors are cozy and inviting, dotted with elegant antique pieces and details like brass chandeliers, gilt-framed oil paintings, damask wallpaper, and plush curtains framing large windows. The lounge is cloaked in rich crimson hues paired with cream and muted gold, with lots of seating filing the spacious room. Burgundy chairs that match the leaf-patterned carpet surround small round tables throughout the space, and a stone fireplace lends an air of coziness. The restaurant is similarly furnished in maroon hues and patterned carpets, but damask wallpapers are replaced by floral and toile designs and tables are topped in crisp, white tablecloths. The hotel’s two bars offer a much more casual atmosphere, one full of comfy leather couches, dim lighting, and a sleek wooden bar, and the other providing a homey pub-style vibe with wooden furnishings, a cozy log-burning fireplace, and pool tables.

The hotel is conveniently located right at the center of the small Victorian town of Pitlochry. Situated on Atholl Road, the town’s main street, the property is surrounded by several restaurants, bars, and shops, and is within a five-minute walk of the train and bus stations. The town is surrounded by scenic countryside, hills, and mountains, and makes for a great base for exploring the Perthshire Highlands. Travelers seeking a dose of nature or outdoor activities will find many hiking and walking trails in the area, as well as golf at the nearby Pitlochry Golf Course (a three-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the hotel). Other nearby sights include beautiful Blair Castle (a 13-minute drive) and the Blair Atholl Distillery (a 12-minute walk).

The rooms, which have traditional touches in the moldings and wallpaper, are more contemporary than other parts of the hotel. The spaces vary in size, from small Single Rooms to Family Rooms to the Caledonian Room, but all are tastefully decorated with attractive patterned wallpaper accent walls and blond wood furniture. Modern wooden headboards with built-in nightstands and lamps frame beds topped with crisp white linens, and match the work desks and wardrobes. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi; most have small lounge areas. Rooms have views of either the street or lovely hotel gardens. Standard bathrooms have shower/tub combos or walk-in showers, heated towel racks, and come with basic toiletries.

The hotel’s elegant restaurant serves locally sourced Scottish fare for breakfast and dinner daily (a full Scottish breakfast is included in all room rates, and some packages include dinner). There are two bars on-site -- the Snug Bar and the Kingfisher Bar -- which offer a more relaxed and casual atmosphere and serve lunch and dinner, plus various light bites and pub food throughout the day. The Kingfisher Bar is a popular spot with locals and guests alike, and has six TV screens covering all major sporting events, as well as two pool tables, plus live music on weekends. There’s also the lovely Atholl Lounge and Garden Room, which serves coffee and various snacks throughout the day, as well as afternoon tea service.

The hotel has event space that includes an elegant ballroom and hosts a variety of functions such as holiday parties and weddings. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, though service is reportedly spotty in rooms. Parking is free, but guests should note that spots fill up quickly.
