Bottom Line

Built in 1851, this charming 68-room property housed Union soldiers during the Civil War -- and some guests say their spirits still walk the hallways. Savannah's oldest hotel is a wonderful pick, with a great location in the heart of the Historic District and elegant rooms that feature gorgeous architectural details like high ceilings, hardwood floors, and decorative fireplaces. However, this upper-middle-range property has some of the drawbacks common to old buildings, such as noise issues, small rooms and bathrooms, and few amenities. Don’t miss the 45 Bistro, which offers a seasonal menu and an extensive wine list.

Location

In the heart of the Historic District, within walking distance of most major attractions

Located on famous Broughton Street, The Marshall House is walking distance from most of Savannah’s major tourist attractions. Just a few blocks from the Riverfront, it is surrounded by great restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.Savannah's charming Historic District is filled with numerous parks and well-kept, architecturally-stunning historic buildings. The nightlife isn't as lively here as in other big Southern cities, but many of Savannah's bars (like infamous Pinkie Master's) are in the Historic District -- mostly thanks to the young crowd from the Savannah College of Art and Design. The Historic District is bordered by the Savannah River and Forsyth Park, and includes the Riverfront and City Market areas. Riverfront is a (somewhat) recently revitalized area, with restaurants, galleries, shops, and bars. City Market is a more diverse and casual version of Riverfront, with lots of live music and vendors selling locally made wares.- 22-minute drive to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport
