The 162-room Embassy Suites Savannah Airport is an upper-middle-range chain hotel about five minutes from the airport. With spacious, two-room suites designed for both comfort and function, this hotel is a step above many of the other properties in the immediate area. The property caters mostly to business travelers, though its proximity to the airport and I-95 make it useful to those passing through town, as well. The hotel offers free breakfast and a free evening happy hour, and has 24-hour fitness and business centers, in addition to free Wi-Fi. For similar amenities and a downtown location, guests could try the moderately higher-priced Andaz Savannah.
Scene
A professional atmosphere for a hotel filled mostly with business travelers
As a brand, the Embassy Suites offers a professional atmosphere and targets mostly business travelers. This Savannah Airport property is no different. The high-ceilinged atrium invites a great deal of light into the large lobby, which otherwise would have been dampened by its dark wood decoration. Instead, the mix of dark wood, white stone and tile, and hints of gray and acid green offers nice contrast and makes the room appear sleek and stylish. Modern lamps lend a warm, golden glow, while the combination of carpet and tile floors helps break up the vast, open-plan space. There's a curved, wooden bar in one corner, and beyond it is 145 Mulberry, a marketplace where guests can buy grab-and-go or lighter meal options to enjoy in the large lounge area. With plenty of tables and large cushioned chairs, this space is also great for working on a laptop or meeting with colleagues. For a more relaxed setting, there are sets of velvet couches and chairs near the entrance.
Location
Five minutes from the airport; 20 minutes from downtown
The Embassy Suites Savannah Airport, aptly named, is only a five-minute drive from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, and the hotel provides a free airport shuttle. While the hotel typically draws business travelers (as is common for this brand), the Embassy Suites proximity to I-95 makes it useful for those passing through on road trips. In an area filled with airport hotels, this property is slightly removed on a dead-end street. Just down the road, there are a number of inexpensive eateries, such as Ruby Tuesday, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Zaxby's. Downtown Savannah is about a 20-minute drive away, making the hotel less convenient for tourists looking to see historic Savannah.
Rooms
Large, modern suites that mix form and function seamlessly
Rooms at the Embassy Suites are large, contemporary, two-room suites with kitchenettes. The design is a thoughtful mix of function and style, with a large desk/table that is used to separate the kitchenette from the living room. At one side of the table is an ergonomic desk chair, and on the other are two wooden dining chairs. Each kitchenette includes a small sink, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker. While not equipped for meals, the kitchenette layout, with extra shelving and counter space, makes it feel somewhat homey. Tasteful curlicue-patterned wallpaper, gray-striped carpeting, and brown sleeper-sofas -- with a subtle pattern reminiscent of a beach at low tide -- lend flavor to living rooms, which could otherwise feel a bit corporate and cold. Bedrooms, with two queens or a king-size bed, are separate from the living rooms and comfortably large, each with a second flat-screen TV. Bathrooms have ample counter space, and are plainly decorated in gray, black, and white, with shower stalls; each has two doors, for accessibility from the living room and bedroom.
Features
24-hour fitness and business centers; free breakfast and happy hour; marketplace with to-go items
While there isn't a full-service restaurant at the Embassy Suites, the hotel does provide a well-regarded free breakfast -- the made-to-order omelets are a hit -- and has the 145 Mulberry Marketplace, which sells soups, sandwiches, tenders, fries, and a few heartier items. Guests can enjoy this rather standard American fare in the lobby lounge or take it to-go. The hotel also hosts an evening reception in the lobby lounge, where guests are welcome to munch on chips and crackers, and enjoy a few beverages (two-drink limit). Targeting business travelers, the hotel has almost 5,000 square feet of meeting space, and operates a 24-hour business center. There's also a basic, 24-hour fitness center with an assortment of cardio machines, free weights, and balance balls. The indoor pool is a little disappointing, though -- small and hexagonal, it's useful for a dip, but not much else. Smaller still, the hot tub will feel crowded quickly. A lackluster room with overhead track lighting, the pool area is probably the least enchanting space at the Embassy Suites.
