Bottom Line

This budget hotel gleans high marks from customers for value. Its free continental breakfast, parking, and Wi-Fi are high on the list of perks in a property that offers lower prices than competitors in the popular downtown historic district. Of course the tradeoff is a less advantageous location; this Comfort Inn is in midtown Savannah, a semi-suburban area populated by chain stores. The 52 rooms are on the uninspired side, offering basics with industrial carpeting and standard-issue tubs. However, guests generally rave about the friendly service and have few complaints about cleanliness or comfort.

Scene

'70s, motel-style layout with lots of seating

The exterior of this modest property resembles a ‘70s apartment building with multicolor brick siding covering long, low, two-story buildings. The hotel's lobby consists of room hallway balconies lined with wrought-iron railings. The space overlooks a terracotta tiled central section with a smattering of potted plants, giving the vague impression of a dated corporate lobby, though guests have praised the plentiful number of places to sit down in common areas. Budget travelers visiting Savannah, including families, tend to frequent the hotel.

Location

15-minute drive to historic section of Savannah; close to shops and restaurants

Midtown Savannah, where the property is situated, is a
semi-suburban section of the city. The hotel sits along a busy street and across
from a shopping plaza that includes chain stores like Toys ‘R’ Us and T.J.
Maxx. Truman Parkway, which gives direct access to downtown, is a few minutes’
drive east while the historic district is a 15-minute drive north. Filmgoers
will find both a Regal Cinemas and a Spotlight Theatre down the road, while
nature lovers can get to Lake Mayer Park in just five minutes by car. Savannah/Hilton
Head International Airport is about a half-hour drive northwest.

Rooms

A little dark and in need of some aesthetic updating, but clean and comfortable

Popcorn ceilings and dark, airport-style
carpeting make for slightly grim bedfellows in these somewhat dated rooms. Half
walls separating desk areas from sleeping sections mean the entrance to units
receive little light. Guests generally laud the comfort and cleanliness of
these large rooms, even while admitting rugs may be a little frayed in places.
Bathrooms feature industrial-style granite vanities and plastic tub/shower
combos. All rooms also have coffeemakers, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and microwaves.

Features

Small business centers, outdoor pool, and fitness center

The Comfort Inn Midtown offers a free continental breakfast daily. On each floor, small alcoves on both sides of the elevator house computers open to guest use. There are also plenty of chairs in the lobby and a collection of loaner books for perusal. A small outdoor pool is flanked by plastic lounge chairs and a carpeted fitness center contains a small handful of machines. Business travelers can take advantage of the on-site meeting space as well as special room packages. Free Wi-Fi is available as well. Guests have also noted that the hotel’s free parking is a significant amenity, since the downtown area is populated by metered street parking; few hotels there have dedicated lots.
