The Veraclub Porto Istana is set among oleander, eucalyptus, and laurel trees in shaded, park-like grounds about 15 minutes outside of Olbia, with views of the islands of Tavolara and Molara. The property has 83 plain bungalows, each with a pleasant covered veranda. There's a small beach with a private area reserved for guests, which can get crowded at times. The food gets good reviews, but some guests have complained that the quality of the rooms is sub-standard for a property that bills itself as four-star.
Scene
A village of small stucco ranch-like apartments, set among greenery
The atmosphere here is low key. The main reception area is a one-story, villa-style structure tucked away among eucalyptus and flowering laurel bushes. Gravel paths lined with plants link the bungalow-style rooms, and may be difficult to navigate for guests using wheelchairs. There's an eclectic country decor theme that dominates the restaurant, which is decked out in multiple hues of floral pattern tablecloths and plastic flowers. Overall, it has a bit of a dated feel, but guests generally report being happy with the laid-back atmosphere and beach location.
Location
A 15-minute drive from Olbia, on the northern end of Sardinia near the sea
The property is a 15-minute drive from the port of Olbia, where there's both ferry service and an airport with flights to mainland Italy. The hotel can arrange for a transfer if notified in advance of arrival. There's little in terms of dining and shopping in the vicinity around the hotel.
Rooms
Plain standalone bungalows with nautical themes and outdoor spaces
The standalone bungalow-style rooms here are simple and basic, with ceramic-tile floors, distressed yellow walls, and painted blue cornflowers that wend their way throughout the decor. Apart from this small decorative touch, the rooms are bare, with furnishings limited to beds and dressers. All bungalows have covered verandas, AC, TVs, mini-fridges, and safes.
Features
Outdoor fitness center, game area, lovely pool, and good food
The pool is the heart of this property; its undulating shape winds around a lovely patio set beneath shady pines. There's a small fitness center right by the pool under a small open pavilion shaded by curtains, but it can still get pretty hot. A few grass tennis courts sit near a small play area for children, which includes swings and a ping-pong table. The beach is a short walk from the hotel, although guests have noted the paths leading down to it can be steep and slippery. The cove on which the beach is situated has clear water and is safe for swimming. The dining room is large, pleasant, and eclectically decorated and serves food that gets generally positive reviews from guests.
