La Villa del Re – Adults Only Hotel

There’s no doubt that this is a luxury property just from the looks of this place. Hotel La Villa del Re makes a regal first impression: it looks like a Sardinian castle surrounded by woven branch fences. Inside the fence, the sprawling hotel sits on lovely green grounds and features impressive stone columns and three floors of balconies with hints of green vine-like plants hanging over the edges. As for the lobby, it’s elegant and airy with light wooden floors, exposed stone walls, white cozy couches, and sophisticated paintings or decorative elements spread throughout. In the back, the hotel looks out over an expansive green lawn that leads to a gorgeous infinity pool and a white sandy beach. With an adult-only policy, this hotel is best suited for couples on a romantic vacation who appreciate the quiet vibe and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of cities. 

Hotel La Villa del Re is located in a quiet area along the Sardinian coastline of Italy. Their beach is private, with calm surf directly accessed from a tiered deck that leads from the pool. The location is geared towards travelers who want a gorgeous property that they don’t mind spending a lot of time in, as there are only a few bars or restaurants that guests can walk to in 20 minutes or less. The small town of Costa Rei is a six-minute drive away and offers a greater selection of restaurants and shops. It’s an hour or so drive to the Cagliari Elmas Airport. 

The guest rooms at this beautiful beach property vary in size, but they’re all spotlessly clean and pretty with an airy atmosphere thanks to an almost-exclusive white decor and nice touches like fresh flowers and welcome cookies and Mirto (a Sardinian liqueur). The wood floors contrast well with the white beds and furniture, creating an overall elegant vibe. Many rooms offer sea views, some from furnished balconies or patios. The most affordable rooms overlook shrubbery. Modern bathrooms offer glass showers or separate showers and trendy tubs, fluffy robes, vessel sinks, and marble or wood panels with a perfect blend of white and tan colors. Amenities are decent here, with flat-screen TVs, Champagne minibars, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and free bottled water upon arrival. All rooms lack coffee- and tea-making facilities, a surprising oversight for a luxury property.

Though Hotel La Villa del Re is a luxury hotel, it misses a note or two: there’s no spa or gym for guests to use. It does have direct access to a white sandy private beach filled with rows of cabanas and comfortable loungers just feet from the ocean. Above the beach is the hotel’s stunning infinity pool surrounded by a chic deck and serviced by a pool bar that offers a light lunch and cold snacks and drinks to those lounging by the water. The hotel’s restaurant, Le Palme, has an elegant interior dining room and seating on a covered patio. It offers a free American breakfast each morning, as well as Mediterranean cuisine for lunch and dinner. The restaurant has a dress code, which requires men to wear trousers, so keep that in mind. Though rooms lack menus, room service is available. For a drink indoors, there's a lobby bar. Guests can also enjoy a free afternoon tea with a buffet of rich, delectable desserts made by the on-site pastry chef. Other perks include free Wi-Fi and parking, as well as free bikes and canoes to rent. Staff can arrange excursions.
