The 54-room Hotel Luna Lughente is a mid-range property situated on a hillside overlooking the sea, about a 10-minute drive from Olbia. There's not much within walking distance of the hotel, so most guests rent a car or use the free shuttle to the beach and the airport. Rooms aren't fancy, but they are spacious and offer flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes, and some have balconies or terraces with nice views. The restaurant provides all meals, including breakfast, but guests complain about the high prices. The highlight here is the beautiful outdoor pool overlooking the gulf, though be aware that wedding parties sometimes overtake the property. Travelers preferring to be closer to the beach should consider Hotel Stefania Boutique Hotel by the Beach, though its pool isn't nearly as nice.
Scene
Relaxing, peaceful place popular for weddings and quiet getaways
This hotel was designed by a Dutch architect who also designed the airport in Olbia. It's a two-story structure topped by a tiled roof and painted in shades of purple, blue, peach, and pink. That colorful first impression sets the tone for a stay at this relatively simple hotel. A single tree surrounded by flowers stands in the center of the cobblestone entrance, and white wicker seating groups and potted plants flank the entrance. Guests enter the lobby via revolving glass doors and step into a two-floor space that's spacious and bright, with a tile floor and white walls. White wicker seating groups with brightly colored pillows provide places for guests to hang out. Overall, there are country and classic elements throughout the hotel, and the style in certain areas verges on homey and dated. It's a peaceful, serene place away from the noise of the city. It's popular for weddings and also draws couples and families looking for a quiet getaway.
Location
Between Olbia and the beach, about a 10-minute drive to either
This hotel is situated on a hill midway between the sparkling shores of the Costa Smeralda and downtown Olbia. There's not much immediately around the hotel, so most guests rent a car, but the hotel does provide free shuttle service to the beach and the airport. It also will assist guests with excursions to surrounding areas. The archaeological site of the Sacred Well is a 10-minute walk away, just across from a shopping center. The Basilica of San Simplicio is about a 10-minute drive away in the center of Olbia, and it takes about the same amount of time to the Costa Smeralda airport. Expect a drive of just under 10 minutes to reach the beach in Pittulongu.
Rooms
Spacious rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes, some with balconies and nice sea views
The hotel offers Classic, Comfort, and Superior Rooms, as well as suites. They all feature a mixture of varying colors of the Mediterranean, with clean-lined furniture and traditional fabrics. Decoration is minimal, and while nothing is exactly old or worn, the color scheme, fabrics, and tilework can't help but look dated for the most part. The six Classic Rooms are on the lower floor and do not have a terrace, but they are spacious and can accommodate three people with a double and a single bed, or three singles. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes. Bathrooms feature local ceramic tile (some in bold colors) plus shower/tub combos, bidets, toiletries, and hairdryers. Comfort Rooms are not as large as the others, but they have balconies overlooking the gulf. Sadly, there's a parking lot and road between the hotel and the gulf, which obstructs some of the views. Suites are on two levels, with a bedroom and bathroom on each floor, as well as dining and living areas. They include some sharper details like herringbone wood floors in the unit we visited. Furnished terraces in the suites offer lovely views of Pittulongu Bay.
Features
Infinity pool with views, restaurant and bar, outdoor dining, and free Wi-Fi
Without a doubt, the highlight here is the hotel's beautiful infinity pool overlooking the gulf is a highlight here. It's a relaxing, peaceful place surrounded by a stone deck, lush trees, and gorgeous views. Lounge chairs are topped by umbrellas for shade, and there's a grassy lawn adjacent. Children have their own little pool. The hotel's restaurant serves all meals, including a breakfast buffet. Cuisine is Mediterranean (and can be pricey), and guests can choose to dine inside in a simple room with white tablecloths, or out on the terrace with beautiful views. The bar and breakfast room features a multicolored mosaic floor, and, like the rest of the hotel, is done in a mix of Mediterranean colors. A conference room and outdoor spaces can accommodate business meetings and social events such as weddings, which sometimes overwhelm the property. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Free shuttles run to both the beach and the airport, a nice perk for a hotel in this category.
