Hotel Luci di La Muntagna is an upper-middle-range property with a typical Sardinian look and feel and gorgeous marina vistas from multiple vistas. The 53 rooms are charming but not quite upscale, outfitted with turquoise accents, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi (though service is unreliable). It's worth securing a room with a sea-view balcony, as some lack terraces and have poor views. Those looking over rock walls can head to the restaurant and bar terraces, or outdoor pool area, all of which offer stunning water views. All rates include a buffet breakfast, and food largely receives positive reviews. The quiet area means there's little of interests within walking distance. Travelers wanting a beachfront location and more luxurious rooms should consider Hotel Romazzino, but rates are higher.
Scene
Simple, traditional Sardinian style and stellar marina views
Hotel Luci di La Muntagna attracts primarily couples with its quiet atmosphere and romantic marina views from numerous spots. Interiors are done in a traditional and charming Sardinian style, with lots of terra-cotta tiling, turquoise accents, and white-linen seating. Coral print throw pillows, whitewashed architecture, and elegant artwork add lovely touches. Outdoors, natural stone walkways, bright bougainvillea, and wicker seating provide a lovely setting for taking in vistas of the water. This is an excellent pick for peace-seeking adults, but there's little on-site for children and the lack of a spa may be a downside for some.
Location
Scenic location overlooking the marina
One of the big positives of the hotel is its scenic location overlooking the marina, which can be reached on foot in about 23 minutes. It's in a quiet spot removed from the action, though there are a handful of restaurants and shops within walking distance. Unfortunately, there are no beaches within easy walking distance, but they are easy to access by car or taxi; popular beaches nearby include Cala Granu (five-minute drive or 28-minute walk), Spiaggia del Pevero (22-minute drive), and Liscia di Vacca (four-minute drive). Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is a 30-minute drive south.
Rooms
Simple, traditional rooms with flat-screen TVs
The 53 guest rooms here are done in a similar traditional Sardinian style that's homey. Expect terra-cotta flooring, simple wooden furniture -- much of which is distressed and painted turquoise, and white-and-turquoise embroidered quilts. Island-inspired artwork, wood carvings, and ceramic lamps add charming touches, plus some units have romantic canopied four-poster beds. On the downside, not all rooms have a terrace and some have poor rock wall views, and most past guests agree it's worth paying more for a sea-view balcony. Each room has air-conditioning, free but spotty Wi-Fi (which, again, has issues), lightly stocked minibars, flat-screen TVs, and closets with small safes. Travertine-tiled bathrooms are attractive and have either rainfall showers or showers and separate tubs, plus an array of free toiletries, bidets, and hairdryers. Upgraded units have bathrobes.
Features
No spa or fitness facilities, but lovely outdoor pool and well-reviewed food
Romancing couples may be disappointed by the lack of a spa, but the hotel does have a lovely outdoor pool with gorgeous views of the marina. It's well-sized and is surrounded by a good number of wicker loungers and umbrellas. Also off to the side are two hammocks and some wicker couches. Also providing scenic vistas are the terraces at the bar and restaurant. The eatery serves regional dishes for lunch and dinner, and all rates include a well-reviewed breakfast buffet with coffee. On-site parking is pricey.
