Bottom Line

Presented as the low-cost option at the Chia Laguna Resort, guests at the Hotel Baia end up with the most value compared to its sister hotels. While the 41 two-room bungalows are definitely more rustic than the resort's other (pricier) options, guests are by no means roughing it. Plus, the secluded Hotel Baia has hilltop views of the Tower of Chia and direct access to its own beach, while still being close to dining and nightlife options. This is a great, secluded spot for nature lovers or anyone who wants access to some of the features of a luxury property for a slightly high price.

Scene

Natural, rustic feel with very simple (but stylish) decor

As the value hotel on the Laguna Resort property, Hotel Baia lacks the luxurious sophistication of the adjacent Hotel Village, Hotel Laguna, and Spazio Oasi. The vibe here is natural, taking advantage of Hotel Baia's setting among rocks, greenery, and a lagoon. Outside of reception, there is no common area to speak of except the bar and the quiet, private Monte Cogoni beachfront set up with loungers. The bar area consists of a small stone countertop with a handful of stools and additional seating areas around a flat-screen TV. The on-site restaurant, with its faux-thatched roof ceiling and wooden floors, is extremely casual.

Location

Southern placement gives hotel a sense of seclusion along with direct beach access and wondrous views

Hotel Baia is perched hillside, overlooking the sea and a flamingo-filled lagoon while offering views of the nearby ancient Tower of Chia. Its location also makes it the only hotel on the resort grounds to have direct access to the beach. All other areas of the resort can be reached within a 10-minute walk, or via shuttle service. Almost everything of need is offered somewhere on-site -- even a market with basic provisions, including medications. Guests can reach the area of Chia itself within a five-minute drive, while the closest big city is Cagliari, a little more than 30 miles away.

Rooms

Rustic cottage feel with sea or lagoon views

Hotel Baia consists of 41 two-room bungalows scattered along the seafront and hillside. Rooms are basic but stylish. Bathrooms are contemporary with a shower and bidet. Rooms at the Hotel Baia are a bit different from each other, and only some have balconies or small terraces, though all have either a view of the sea or lagoon. Rooms also come equipped with satellite TV, mini-fridges, adjustable AC, closets or wardrobes, and desks.

Features

Dedicated beach, casual buffet dining, and access to additional resort features and services

Unlike the other hotels on the resort property, Hotel Baia has its own dedicated beach -- Monte Cogoni -- a mere 60 steps from the bungalows and down a natural footpath. The dedicated restaurant, La Perogla, is a simple affair serving traditional cuisine buffet style for breakfast and dinner (included in the half-board rate). Typical dishes include grilled seafood, surf and turf appetizers, and salads. Free outdoor parking and Wi-Fi are available as well.
Farther away in the Hotel Village and Hotel Laguna camps are the hotel's many kid-friendly amenities. Adult activities at the resort include horse-trekking, mountain biking, jeep and quad excursions, and various water-themed sports. The shared wellness center has treatments ranging from chocolate massages to manicures and includes a Turkish bath. For nighttime shenanigans, adults can choose from any of the resort’s bars and lounges, a nightclub, or theater and cabaret shows in the outdoor pavilion. There’s also a frequent, free shuttle that travels around the grounds and down to the beaches if you don't feel like walking.
