This large resort has extensive sporting facilities including an Olympic size pool and an additional training pool. It's frequented by athletes, sports teams, and tourists wishing to explore the northern end of Sardinia. Rooms here are large but plain, but the massive modern bathrooms are a nice perk. Visiting in the off season may help not only ensure a better price, but also safeguard against the crowds of sports teams that fill the facilities in the peak months of July and August (although it will mean no AC).
Scene
Popular with the young and athletic, as well as large groups
Families, sports teams, and athletic types flock to this large resort, which offers a variety of sporting facilities near the sea. The lobby has wide halls and is covered in marble. The resort has the formality of a convention center or slightly corporate hotel from a couple of decades ago; patterned carpeting in the hallways adds to this slightly dated aesthetic. Rooms are often heavily discounted during off season, when the resort is generally less crowded.
Location
A 15-minute drive from the Olbia airport and ferry terminal
The resort is situated near the beach in the rolling green hills just outside of Olbia, on the northern end of the island of Sardinia. The property is not readily available via public transportation, though the hotel can arrange a transfer with advance notice. There's no direct access to the nearby beach, but the hotel does run a shuttle. Both the Olbia airport and ferry terminal are a 15-minute drive away.
Rooms
Large and basic rooms, with AC limited to the high season
Ceramic tile floors combine with ochre curtains and cream-colored chairs and couches in slightly dated, but nonetheless pleasant rooms. The furniture is light-wood laminate and all bathrooms have a combination bathtub and shower -- and double vanities, which are a nice touch. Guests may want to note that the air conditioning gets shut off during the off-season, even if it's still warm out. Rooms by the pool may receive noise from parties, which are often permitted after-hours -- light sleepers may want to request a room in a different part of the property. There's no Wi-Fi and tube TVs are dated. All rooms have balconies and minibars.
Features
Large gym, swimming pools, a spa, and three restaurants
The facilities at the Geovillage are the main draw for many of the guests. There's a large, multi-room gym with an extensive array of exercise machines, an Olympic-size pool, a leisure pool, and numerous tennis courts on the property. There are also large meeting rooms suitable for conferences and three restaurants, one of which has a wood-fire pizza oven. The spa has a Turkish bath, a sauna, and whirlpools, and guests receive a 90-minute pass free of charge. Special children's activities are available in July and August.
