The nearest town, Villasimius, is difficult to reach without a car
The 49 bungalow-style rooms at this intimate upper-mid-range hotel get high marks from guests for their simple charm; both the rooms and the common areas combine the natural materials of clay, wood, and wicker in a relaxing environment that complements the beauty of the surrounding Sardinian foothills. Two well-maintained pools sit at the heart of the property. While it does not offer direct access to the water, the hotel, situated about a half mile from the sea, does have a designated private beach nearby with lounge chairs, although the beach requires a fee. A restaurant, bar, and boutique are all on-site. The hotel, together with a nearby sister hotel, runs a shuttle service to the beach. Note that the Cruccuris is closed from November through April.
Scene
A series of bungalows intimately arranged in the rolling hills near the sea
Terra-cotta tile floors and wood-beamed ceilings create a rustic air in a comfortable environment rife with places to sit and lounge. The surrounding countryside -- arid but nonetheless with grass-covered hills that rise immediately around the property -- provides a romantic backdrop for the attractive and intimate grounds. Many of the hotel’s areas handsomely combine indoor and outdoor spaces, such as the pool bar with its wicker easy chairs placed under a shady awning.
Location
A couple of miles from the sea, in the foothills of southeastern Sardinia
Unlike many of the hotels on this part of the island, the Cruccuris Resort does not offer direct access to the beach. The town of Villasimius is about a 45-minute walk away along a busy main road lacking a sidewalk; most have noted that a car is necessary for the area, though the property does join with a neighboring hotel in providing shuttle service to the private beach. The surrounding foothills of the southern part of the island offer a backdrop that's both dramatic and romantic. The Cagliari Airport is an hour's drive away; the hotel can arrange a transfer, for a fee, if arranged in advance.
Rooms
Simple country charm, all rooms have an outdoor space
The rooms here are simple but charming, with terra-cotta tile floors, wicker furniture, and exposed wood ceilings; the color scheme throughout comprises the warm hues of these natural materials. Decor consists of whimsical paintings, the occasional ceramic item, and accent pieces like Balinese carved wood mirrors. All the rooms, which consist of individual, bungalow-style structures, have separate, covered outdoor patios with tables and chairs. The one slight incongruity guests have noted is the presence of stall showers, which, especially in the larger rooms, don’t seem in keeping with the comfort level. All rooms have safes, bathrobes, and slippers, minibars with alcoholic beverages, and hair dryers. Larger rooms have wicker daybeds with pull-out trundles.
Features
Two attractive outdoor pools set amid landscaped greenery, bike rental, lots of places to sit and lounge
The hotel does not offer a huge array of activities, but it does provide plenty of places to sit and enjoy the countryside, including lounge chairs around the attractive pools, and wicker armchairs throughout. Access to a private nearby beach is offered for a fee. The Baia Delle Palme Pool is the larger of the two pools, in the center of the hotel grounds. The Oasis Pool, set slightly apart from the cluster of bungalows, has a small tiled patio surrounding it. Bikes are available to rent and there's a small boutique on-site for gifts. Breakfast is free but there isn't a full restaurant on-site, though there is a cute bar with lots of liquor options. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
