Bottom Line

The 150-room Agrustos Village is a family-friendly, three-pearl property on the east coast of Sardinia, about a five- to 10-minute walk to the beach. In addition to two outdoor pools, there are lots of sporting facilities and an animation team providing entertainment for kids and adults. Rooms have homey decor, mini-fridges, and small flat-screen TVs, but the bathrooms could use updating and run small. The location is fairly remote, however, so guests will need a car to do any extensive sightseeing. While there are tennis and basketball courts, there's no gym. The restaurant serves buffet-style meals and all-inclusive rates are available, though food receives mixed reviews. It's worth comparing rates with the nearby Hotel Club Baia del Porto, which is slightly closer to the beach and has a well-reviewed restaurant.

Scene

Family-friendly hotel with homey, somewhat dated interiors, and gorgeous grounds

This mid-range hotel is a popular vacation spot for families and couples --particularly from France -- looking for fun and relaxation away from the bustle of the city.  The property is composed of 150 rooms in one-story bungalows that are painted peach with blue windows. The extensive, lush grounds have palm trees, flowers, and stone pathways, not to mention dozens of sports and recreational facilities. Interiors are homey and comfortable, featuring lots of terra-cotta tile floors, wrought-iron accents, and stonework. However, some of the wicker and rattan furnishings, and buffet tablecloths with fish motifs, are dated and could use a refresh. Still, the blue-painted wood chairs and colorful artwork give the restaurant a pleasant vibe. The hotel is best for travelers seeking a low-key spot with plenty to keep entertained.

Location

On the east coast of Sardinia, a 10-minute walk from the beach

Agrustos Village is located on the east coast of Sardinia, at the end of a small dead-end street that leads directly to the sea. It’s a half-hour drive from the Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. There is not much to do immediately surrounding the hotel, aside from the on-site activities and beach which is a five- to 10-minute walk away depending on room location. The town center of the seaside village of Budoni is less than a 15-minute drive away, and the beautiful beach of Spiaggia di Porto Ottiolu is a nine-minute drive. Guests will need a car to go out for any nightlife or to explore other cities. Conveniently, the hotel has a car rental service on-site and can organize excursions to nearby attractions.

Rooms

Sunny rooms with private patios and nice views, but small bathrooms

The 150 well-lit rooms of Agrustos Village include beautiful garden views from private furnished patios. Trees and ivy around the outside of some of the bungalows gives a quaint and romantic ambiance. Rooms are decorated in Sardinian style, featuring terra-cotta tile, distressed wood with bird etchings, and cream quilts with blue detailing. Each comes with a large armoire, small flat-screen TV, safe, direct-dial phone, and mini fridge. Windows and doors have a pretty blue trim. A small mirror hangs over either a dresser or desk, and any other wall hangings or art is minimal. Most rooms can comfortably accommodate up to four people, and connecting rooms are available. Small bathrooms have stall showers that could use an update, as well as hairdryers and free toiletries.

Features

A plethora of recreation facilities, plus buffet restaurant

Family fun is the focus at Agrustos Village. There are plenty of options to entertain children: a playground, the main pool and separate kiddy pool, and an animation team that puts on shows and offers group classes. The pools and nearby beach have ample metal loungers and umbrellas. Among the activities offered are bocce ball, archery, a tennis court, volleyball, basketball, sailing, and windsurfing. Although there are plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities, there is no gym. All rates include a buffet breakfast and the restaurant serves buffet-style meals for lunch and dinner. It also has themed dinner nights, such as a Sardinian evening with local dishes. Food, however, receives mixed reviews. Three bars are location inside, by the pool, and by the beach. All-inclusive rates are available. There is a car rental service at the hotel and shuttle available to the beach, for a fee. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby only.
