Sapporo Park Hotel

From the outside, the stark and blocky hotel isn't much to look at. Indoors, however, interiors are a mix of sleek, contemporary spaces and slightly dated, more corporate-looking decor. There are gray and yellow patterned carpets mixed with chairs upholstered in older fabrics in the hallways, but the lobby comprises utterly chic seating areas and mod-influenced oak pieces arranged under Calder-inspired mobiles hanging from the ceiling. It's a sharp look, and one that would make this an excellent choice if the style was more uniform throughout the hotel. As it stands, the property is mostly used as a base for sleeping and catching breakfast before heading out to see the sights in Sapporo, even though there are several restaurants and bars on-site. The hotel has are scenic views of Nakajima Park from many vantages throughout the property, including its restaurants and breakfast areas. Families and couples make up the majority of guests, though business travelers pass through as well. 

The hotel sits right across from Sapporo’s Nakajima Park, which has a lake and provides lovely year-round views. The Susukino area, one of the major entertainment districts of Sapporo that's home to plenty of bars and restaurants, is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. It’s a five-minute walk to the Nakajima Koen subway station, which connects to the Ododri shopping area and Odori Park in just 15 minutes. The Sapporo Beer Museum, which details the history of the famous beer that bears the city's name, is about 40 minutes away by subway, or just 10 minutes by car or taxi. For scenic views over the region, the Mount Okura Observatory is a 20-minute drive outside of town. The Okadama Airport is a 20- to 25-minute drive, with an airport bus drop off five minutes from the hotel. 

The 216 rooms are separated into Executive, Superior, and Standard floors, and while all have a relatively simple aesthetic, some rooms are more modern than others. The style in many Standard and Superior Rooms is dated, with light wood veneer furniture, soft furnishings in old-school pastel colors, and mostly barren walls save one piece of abstract art. Executive Rooms, which include the Park In Park rooms that we visited, are a bit more contemporary. While decor varies from room to room in this category, expect to see furniture in darker hues with clean lines as well as sharp wall art, like black-and-white photography. Fabrics and upholstery in these rooms is more on trend. Park View Rooms have beautiful views of Nakajima Park, while Executive Floor rooms include the use of a special lounge, free beverages in the mini-fridges, and free video on demand. Bathrooms are clean and spacious, with long white vanities and curtained shower/tub combos. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea kettles, robes, and slippers.

A Western-style breakfast buffet is served at the Terrace Restaurant Piare, which also serves lunch, dinner and a teatime dessert buffet on weekends and holidays, with a separate patisserie. Japanese-style breakfasts are served at the Nadaman Garden Japanese Restaurant, which also serves lunch and dinner and has separate sushi, tempura and teppanyaki bars. Keep in mind that breakfast is not included with standard room rates. The Togenkyo Chinese Restaurant serves lunch and dinner. There’s also a lobby bar, and the Park Club has private rooms. Room service is available, as are in-room massages and laundry services. On-site shops sell clothing, accessories, and souvenirs. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
