One of two Santos hotels in the Mendes Plaza hotel group (the
other is the nearby Tower Panorama), the six-floor Mendes Plaza Hotel
Scene
Contemporary hotel with a rooftop pool and kids' club
The Mendes Plaza is housed in a
distinctively designed white minimalist structure with porthole-style windows. The lobby features a long, dark-wood reception desk and a few seating areas with brown, gray, and tan office-style furniture, although it's a little dimly lit. The
hotel attracts both business and leisure travelers and despite its urban location, it has the feeling of a resort, thanks largely to its numerous recreational facilities.
Location
City center location a five-minute walk from beach
The Torre Plaza is located at the southern end of the
city center, just west of the Praca Independencia and four blocks east of Highway 050, which runs through the heart of the
city. The
hotel is attached to a shopping center and is within walking distance of numerous shops and restaurants. There's a bus stop right by the hotel and the beach is a five-minute walk south. The Urbano Caldeira
Stadium and Memorial das Conquistas are a six-minute drive from the hotel. The Municipal
Aquarium is a
10-minute drive from the hotel, as is the old part of Santos, where sites such as the Coffee Museum, Church and Monastery of
Santo Antonio do Valongo, the Museum of Sacred Art, and the funicular to the top
of Monte Serrat are located. The nearest airport is Sao Paulo-Guarulhos
International Airport, an hour-and-a-half drive north of the hotel.
Rooms
Modern rooms with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi; some have ocean views
The 105 rooms at the Torre Plaza have a bright, contemporary
feel, with a largely beige, white, and brown color palette and laminate hardwood
or carpeted floors. All rooms come with beds with thick mattresses, desks, safes, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen satellite TVs with international channels. Some have ocean views and jetted tubs and Suites, and Apartments have separate living areas, while Single rooms run small. Bathrooms are on the plain side with small sinks and either shower/tub combos or, in lower category rooms, walk-in showers.
Features
Outdoor pool with swim-up bar plus game room, kids' club, fitness facilities, and a restaurant
The Torre Plaza has a lot of on-site facilities, including a large outdoor pool with a volleyball net and a basketball hoop, and an adjacent sun-deck and children's pool. The pool also has a swim-up bar with stools that serves light fare in addition to cocktails. Deck seating is also available.
Inside the hotel, there's a game room with a billiards table, playing cards, and board games. The hotel's fitness room has flat-screen TVs
and a wide range of cardio and weight equipment, with personal training
available. The on-site spa has a hot tub and a sauna, and offers massage services and sofas for lounging. Kids under 12 can take advantage of the staffed children's club, which -- along with toys and games -- offers storytelling and other entertainment. The restaurant serves high-quality international and Brazilian food, including plenty of fresh seafood dishes. Breakfast is served here, buffet-style, for a fee. The lobby bar has its own grand piano and specializes in tropical drinks. The hotel also has
a business center with several computer stations, a reading and TV lounge, concierge
services, and self-parking (for a fee).
