Scene

Simple, cozy atmosphere with various places to relax outdoors

Sea and Sand Inn has amazing views of the water and nearby boardwalk. The property's decor is simple but still provides a cozy atmosphere. The front lobby is small and generic looking -- with brochures, a few benches, and a Mac computer and printer -- leading to the space where guests can enjoy the continental breakfast. The exterior features a small grassy lawn with manicured hedges and a terrace that allows guests to relax while taking in the ocean air.

Location

Within walking distance to many Santa Cruz attractions

The inn sits on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, on a street next to other hotels and residences and about a five-minute drive to downtown Santa Cruz. The location is within walking distance of plenty of restaurants, shops, and popular destinations. Some notable attractions with approximate travel times include:- Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center (five-minute walk)

  • Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History (seven-minute drive)
  • University of California Santa Cruz (seven-minute drive)
  • Neary Lagoon Park (11-minute walk)
  • Santa Cruz Surfing Museum (14-minute walk)
  • Lighthouse Field State Beach (15-minute walk)
  • Nickelodeon Theatre (18-minute walk)
  • Del Mar Theater (18-minute walk)
  • San Jose International Airport (44-minute drive)
  • Monterey (53-minute drive)

Rooms

Spacious, clean rooms with ocean views

Guests can fall asleep to the sound of waves in these clean, spacious, and bright rooms. The decor is generally comfy and homey though a bit outdated looking. There are five different types of rooms to choose from, with some of the more luxurious units having a fireplace and whirlpool bath. Each room is carpeted and has simple light wood furniture, a TV, DVD player, a sitting area, and fantastic views of the ocean -- especially from the second floor. The walls are thin, so noise from next door, or even on the beach, can easily be heard. There's also no air-conditioning, so rooms can get hot. Bathrooms are very clean and well maintained, with tiled floors and glass showers.

Features

Small breakfast room and outdoor deck with views of the ocean

The inn has a small breakfast room with a kitchenette where a free continental breakfast is served every morning. Guests can eat inside or on the outdoor patio, which has tables, umbrellas, and lounge chairs overlooking the ocean. Later in the afternoon, guests can also enjoy free wine and cheese.
