Bottom Line

The two-and-a-half-pearl Comfort Inn Sandusky has a few features not always found in budget hotels, including a fine-dining
restaurant, and an indoor pool and outdoor pool with cabana bar. Its 209 guest rooms are clean and spacious, and some have jetted tubs. But bathrooms could use some updating, and while the lobby is large and bright with decorative art, some of the other common areas, such as the breakfast room, are showing their age. It's conveniently located near major attractions, but travelers with kids might prefer staying at the Quality Inn & Suites Rainwater Park, which includes a water park and a bowling alley.

Scene

Busy, resort-like property that draws families and couples

With an impressive lobby, fine-dining restaurant/nightclub,
and two spacious swimming pools, this budget-friendly hotel feels like a beachside
resort in many respects. The bright and open lobby has upscale touches like arches
and large planters above the reception desk and a nautical-theme sculpture framed
by two-story columns and mirrors. Nice upholstered sofas and armchairs in reds
and blues create a spacious sitting area in the center. They rest upon a brown
patterned rug atop lovely beige tile. The fine-dining Italian restaurant
is richly decorated with pink marble and red upholstered booths with black
granite tables. A colorful mural of an Italian coastline decorates a back wall.
Another large mural with aqua blue water and spectacular tropical fish leads to the
indoor pool, where the walls lining it are painted in a festive beach scene. Especially
during the Cedar Point season, this casual hotel bustles with tourists enjoying
Sandusky’s attractions.

Location

Along a main road south of Cedar Point, surrounded by hotels and restaurants

The Comfort Inn is located on a busy main road, about a 15-minute drive to Sandusky’s marque attraction, the Cedar Point Amusement
Park. It's surrounded by other hotels, chain restaurants, stores, and a
Walmart, which is a three-minute drive away. Approximate driving times to other area attractions
are: Sandusky Mall (six minutes), Sandusky Speedway (10 minutes), NASA Plum
Brook Station (six minutes), Keys Golf Course (three minutes), and Kalahari
Resort and Spa (four minutes). The lakefront East Harbor State Park is a 20-minute
drive, as is Port Clinton’s ferries that travel to and from Put-in-Bay and
other Lake Erie islands. Ruggles Beach is 15 minutes away by car, and Hinde Airport in
Huron is a five-minute drive. Toledo and Cleveland Airports are about an hour's drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Rooms are clean and spacious, but bathrooms are dated

The 29 rooms at the Comfort Inn Sandusky include Double and King Rooms, some of which have jetted tubs framed by mirrors and polished marble tile. Rooms with three or
four double beds are also available. Decor can vary, but most have beige walls with matching bedspreads with blue-and-white accent throws. Dark-wood furniture includes
headboards, nightstands, desks, and dressers.
There are black leather office chairs, upholstered corner armchairs, and gold
drapes. Rooms have tan granite vanities, which are either inside or outside the bathrooms. The bathrooms are small and dated, with old-style Waterpik showerheads and acrylic
shower/tub inserts. Some bathroom floors are linoleum, while others
have tile. Caulking, grout, and floors could use a refresh. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers,
microwaves, mini-fridges (which can be noisy), and free Wi-Fi.

Features

Free breakfast, fine-dining restaurant, indoor and outdoor pools, and free parking

The Comfort Inn Sandusky offers a fair amount of features, especially considering its budget status. Room rates include a free hot breakfast buffet, and free coffee and tea are available in the lobby
throughout the day. The hotel operates a fine-dining Italian restaurant that is
open for dinner daily. It includes a large bar and dance floor with music. In season,
there is a cabana bar and grille as part of the outdoor pool complex that
serves food. The outdoor pool also has a sundeck with lounge chairs
and tables. The indoor pool also has seating and a whirlpool, and there's a game room with several pinball and
video machines. There's a meeting space and a business center in the lobby with
two computer stations with Internet access. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout
the property. Vending machines and coin-operated laundry facilities are on-site. There is free parking on-site, including spaces for trucks and buses.
