Scene
Tudor cottage with a California twist, a lovely breakfast room, and lobby refreshments
The lovely Tudor-style pitched roof of the San Luis Creek Lodge brings English charm to Monterey Street. The hotel offers competitively priced rooms in the heart of the city. At the brick-lined front door is an iconic red English telephone booth and topiaries. Built in 2003, the lodge was renovated in 2008 and has a laid-back romantic ambience that draws couples. A wood front desk with a mini suit of armor stands at attention. A table offers flavored water, coffee, tea, baked treats, and bottles of water.
The small breakfast room has Tudor criss-crossed window frames and buffet tables. A door leads to a patio with a suit of armor on the small front terrace.
Three two-story buildings, adorned by greenery house the rooms. The Londonderry looks like an English country home. The Craftsman is a small California craftsman house. And the Plantation mixes Southern design with Georgian columns and a yellow-painted exterior. There’s a slightly narrow driveway along the main building, the Gatehouse, and uncovered parking spaces.
