Cramped business center
This upscale, medium-sized hotel, part of the Omni chain, is a stylish, comfortable option for well-heeled tourists and business travelers. The luxury comes at a high price, however, and better rates can generally be found at other, nearby four-pearl properties, such as the Hilton or Le Meridien, though some may prefer the Omni's more traditional style and touches of grandeur.
Scene
Dramatic, old-fashioned elegance
The lobby, with its soaring ceilings and arched windows, has a grand, old-world elegance. There are chandeliers and sconces aplenty, dark wood-paneled walls, dramatic marble staircases and a massive marble front desk. The property is impeccably staged with fruit-filled bowls, flower arrangements and vintage telephones.
Location
Good location in the financial district, near Chinatown
On a small main street in the heart of the financial district, the hotel is well placed for both leisure and business travelers and within walking distance of everything in downtown. Chinatown is a five-minute walk and it’s about a 12-minute walk to the Ferry Building Marketplace. Fisherman’s Wharf is about a 30-minute walk or about 20 minutes by bus. The hotel is four and a half blocks to the Montgomery Street BART station.
Rooms
Luxurious rooms with classic style
The 362 quiet, climate-controlled rooms have a simple elegance, with gold and black patterned carpeting, white down comforters, beige accent pillows, dark wood furniture, plush armchairs and crown molding. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, alarm clocks with iPod docks, minibars, coffeemakers, robes, and free newspapers. The bathrooms have large marble vanities and curtained shower/tub combos along with light-up makeup mirrors. Suites offer even more luxury; The Presidential Suite, for example, has a dark-wood four-poster bed with a chandelier above it, and its bathroom has a whirlpool tub and separate stall shower.
Features
Well-regarded steakhouse with bar, large gym, and meeting rooms
The attached restaurant and bar, Bob’s Steak & Chop House, is part of a national fine dining chain. The hotel also has a large fitness center and there are seven meeting rooms, including the 2,800-square-foot Grand Ballroom. In comparison, the business center is a bit narrow, with two computers and a printer. Room service is on offer 24 hours a day. Welcoming touches include free coffee in the lobby and treats such as gingerbread cookies and warm cider in cold weather.
