Part of the Personality Hotels chain, this boutique property attracts tourists and business travelers with its cool vibe, as well as its central location near public transportation, restaurants, and shops (however, it is also close to the Tenderloin, which is one of the city's seedier areas). A handful of guest lounges scattered throughout the hotel are a particular highlight, with their hip decor that leans toward a '60s aesthetic. Fun touches extend to the rooms, which are small (with even smaller bathrooms). Many guests have commented positively on the rooms' cool decor, cleanliness, and comfortable beds, but have been unimpressed by their small size.
Scene
Boutique hotel with a '60s aesthetic that draws tourists and business travelers alike
The hotel's overall design aesthetic has a mod, '60s vibe, which is particularly evident in the guest lounges located throughout the hotel. Each lounge is decorated in a different color scheme and outfitted with cool, funky furnishings, such as a clear plexi bubble chair and molded polymer wall coverings. Business guests have commented favorably on the lounges, as well as the conference room and 24-hour business center. The hotel is also popular with tourists who want a stylish but snug base for exploring local points of attraction.
Location
Located close to Union Square and near the slightly seedy Tenderloin
The Diva is situated on a commercial street filled with street-level businesses that is close to Union Square. The hotel is also near Powell Street, which is San Francisco’s theater district. It is within walking distance of a considerable amount of retail shopping and large department stores. BART, buses, and cable cars are all within a block or two of the hotel. The Tenderloin, a slightly seedy area of town known for its transient street population, is also a few blocks away; single travelers may want to exercise caution returning at night. The Powell Street Bart (less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel) provides direct access to San Francisco International Airport, which can be reached in about 40 minutes on the train.
Rooms
Hip, small rooms with '60s-style furnishings and fun decorative accents
Entertaining touches help to add fun to the small rooms here. Confetti-pattern carpeting and shades with images of women’s garters printed on them add stylistic flair to the suites, which also feature chrome sconce lighting and Eames-style metal chairs. Beds get good reviews. Guests have noted that the bathrooms can be tiny. Most contain a shower/tub combo. Though street-facing rooms have better views, they tend to draw a considerable amount of noise because windows have not been updated. The AC units also seem particularly loud to some guests.
Features
Guest lounges, a gym, and a business center that are all open 24 hours a day
Room service is available from a nearby restaurant; there is also a Starbucks within the hotel compound. The fitness center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is on the small side, however, with just a handful of exercise machines and a set of free weights. Business-friendly amenities include a 24-hour business center and several meeting rooms. There are also several lounges interspersed throughout the hotel, which are open 24/7 to all guests and outfitted with mod décor.
