Bottom Line

The 20-room Geary Parkway Motel is a no-frills budget motel in San Francisco’s Richmond District, with homey decor, 24-hour front desk service, a breakfast counter in the lobby, and an outdoor parking lot. Classically decorated rooms have microwaves, mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs. However, the hotel’s location on a busy street can sometimes make for a noisy night’s sleep. If that’s a concern, perhaps try the San Francisco at The Presidio, which has reportedly quieter rooms.

Scene

Value motel featuring traditional decor but no elevator

The Geary Parkway Motel offers clean interiors and free on-site parking, making it a great choice for an affordable place to stay in the notoriously expensive San Francisco (although it's location is on the northern tip of the city). With a retro brown motel sign on Geary Street, the two-story building is painted brown and yellow, creating a homey vibe. It is unmistakably a motel, with exterior hallways and parking spaces -- some of which are covered -- are at the property's center. There's also a late-night check-in window outside the small, simple lobby. There are stairs that lead to the second floor outdoor hallways, but no elevator.

Location

In San Francisco’s Richmond District, walking distance to Golden Gate Park

The Geary Parkway Motel is on busy Geary Street in north San Francisco’s Richmond District. It's next to a Lamps Plus and a sushi restaurant and is across the street from a market, bars, and a Chinese restaurant. In walking distance is the Golden Gate Park, California Academy of Sciences and de Young Museum. The Presidio is a 10-minute drive. It’s a 20-minute car ride to Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf is a 20-minute car trip or a 50-minute bus ride or trip on the Powell-Hyde cable car. It’s a 40-minute drive to the San Francisco International Airport.

Rooms

Traditional, clean rooms with flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and mini-fridges

Two room types are offered: King and Double, all accessed by electronic key cards. Rooms are well-equipped for budget lodgings, and all come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, safes, coffeemakers, irons/ironing boards, dining tables with two chairs, mini-fridges, and microwaves. Interior furnishings include classic light wood furniture, colorfully patterned bedspreads, homey decor and wallpaper trim, writing desks, entertainment stands, low-pile green carpeting, and windows that face outdoor hallways. Small bathrooms have narrow walk-in showers and hairdryers. ADA accessible rooms are available.

Features

Free breakfast in lobby and vending machines, but little else

A free continental breakfast comprising mostly packaged takeaway items is served in the 24-hour lobby every morning on a counter with a Keurig coffeemaker and juice machine. There's also an ice machine on the second floor and a soda vending machine in on the ground floor, out in the parking lot.
