Scene

No-frills common spaces

The small lobby area has simple wood front desk and a couple of leather couches. It's more of a place to sit for a spell after a day of walking in the infamously hilly city than a spot for hanging out.

Location

In the heart of North Beach, near many attractions

On busy Columbus Avenue, the Columbus Motor Inn is perfectly situated for access to San Francisco’s major tourist attractions. In the heart of North Beach, which is considered the city’s Little Italy, it’s close to many restaurants and is about a 10-minute walk to both Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. It’s also a five-minute walk to the switchback section (the crooked part) of Lombard Street. Coit Tower is a 12-minute walk away and it’s a 15- to 20-minute walk to Chinatown. There’s also a bike rental shop down the street.

Rooms

Large, basic and clean

The 45 rooms are have standard motor inn decor, with beige walls, green carpeting, gray floral bedspreads and basic wooden furniture, including a table and chairs. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and safes. The CD alarm clocks are a bit of a throwback, though they're not unexpected in this price range. The bathrooms are large and modern, with a tub/shower combos, hairdryers and decent amount of counter space around the sink. Rooms on Columbus Avenue have small balconies, but interior rooms are quieter. There are also two-room suites for families.

Features

Free parking

The Columbus Motor Inn is one of the few hotels in the city that offers free parking, which is good for road-trippers, but its location makes a car unnecessary for most tourists.
