Bottom Line

Among the nicest places to stay in Coronado, 1906 Lodge is a cozy, upper-middle range property that was built in 1906 as a boarding house. Furnishings such as wooden bookshelves and painted glass lamps give the 17 rooms a homey feel. There’s no pool on-site, but it’s a short walk to the beach. Guests won’t find a full restaurant or bar on-site either, but a breakfast buffet with a daily hot dish and bottomless mimosas is provided as well as afternoon snacks and freshly baked cookies. For a more affordable place to stay, guests can check out Glorietta Bay Inn, a mid-range hotel with a pool.

Scene

Boutique hotel that began as an early 20th-century boarding house

The main building at 1906 Lodge is a charming structure with white stucco walls and green window frames. Built in 1906 and designed by two renowned San Diego architects, the property originally boarded students of the School of Aviation at North Island. Today, palm trees, flowering plants, and fountains decorate the lawn, while wicker chairs give a spot to unwind on the porch. Inside, the lodge-like feel is evident in the lobby, with wooden ceiling beams, a brick fireplace, and a wooden floor with tapestry rugs. Breakfast is served in a cozy room with glass-topped tables with wooden chairs.
