Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk

This high-rise hotel with 21 floors is on a quiet part of the San Antonio River Walk. Built in 1996 and renovated in 2007, the furnishings are contemporary but generic, outfitted largely in shades of black, white, and beige. The lobby has plenty of gray seating (where you’ll spot business people in-between meetings) atop stylish patterned carpet, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and polished stone floors. While the restaurant is mostly decorated in the same vein, one area has a dated country look with red-patterned carpet, a large wooden horse sculpture, and pale-yellow walls. The pool area is the most impressive scene in the hotel, with lots of space and pleasant views, though guests are generally at nearby tourist spots or in an office building. 

This hotel is located at the quiet end of San Antonio’s River Walk, which is lined with shops, restaurants, and historical attractions. The location makes it ideal for those who want to be within walking distance of top attractions, but away from the noise of the center. The most buzzing area is about eight minutes away on foot. There are several restaurants and bars just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. Nearby attractions include the Alamo (12-minute walk away), Tobin Center for the Performing Arts (nine-minute walk), El Mercado marketplace (14-minute walk) and San Antonio Museum of Art (22-minute walk). It’s an eight-minute drive to Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, and San Antonio International Airport is 17 minutes. Like most hotels downtown, parking is available for a hefty fee.

The 410 rooms are comfortable and decorated with generic contemporary furnishings in a white, brown and beige color scheme. Floors are carpeted and tall windows show city views, the best of which are from the higher floors. Deluxe Rooms come with couches and ottomans, while Executive Suites have spacious sitting areas, dining tables, and kitchenettes. Beds are plush and all rooms have a work desk, ergonomic chair, flat-screen TV, safe, and coffeemaker. Wi-Fi is only free for Wyndham Rewards members. Modern bathrooms have white tiling and a black-granite countertop, shower/tub combo, hairdryer, and toiletries. Some guests have complained of noise from neighboring rooms and people outside the hotel. 

This three-and-a-half-pearl hotel is not lacking in facilities. There’s a heated rooftop pool large enough for laps, with a separate whirlpool, lounge chairs, and tables to sit and enjoy the pleasant views. A spa offers facials, massages, and body wraps, while the spacious 24-hour fitness center has plenty of cardio and weight-training equipment. There’s one bar and restaurant, a casual place serving American food that is reportedly mediocre. Room service is available 24 hours. As the hotel is popular with business travelers, there are 13 meeting rooms accommodating up to 3,000 people and a 24-hour business center with computers, printers, and fax machines. Pets are allowed for a fee and there is valet parking for a charge.
