The mid-range Hotel Indigo San Antonio Riverwalk provides a useful location right on the San Antonio River in walking distance to the heart of the River Walk promenade. Its 149 rooms are spacious and comfortable with kitchenettes, Keurig coffeemakers, and stylish bathrooms, though guests have complained about thin walls and inconsistent housekeeping. The hotel also provides a small pool, a limited fitness center, and a business center. Breakfast (for a fee) and dinner are served in the on-site restaurant as well. But travelers could compare rates with the three-pearl Holiday Inn Riverwalk, which has a slightly more central location and includes breakfast in most rates.
Scene
Spanish-style exteriors, colorful interiors, and attractive grounds
The Hotel
Indigo San Antonio Riverwalk occupies a Spanish-style villa with colorful interiors adorned with punchy mod decor. Overall, it's a cheerful look, though some details feel a bit dated. The hotel’s arched wrought-iron entry makes a grand first impression. In the
lobby, the dark-wood reception desk fronted with photos feels old fashioned, but it's topped with a cluster of pendant lights and surrounded by brightly colored
sofas, hardwood floors, and wave-print area rugs. The hotel also has a petite outdoor pool bordered by greenery and plants, but it's small, shallow, and offers limited loungers and patio chairs. One of the hotel's most attractive spaces is its tiled patio area with red- and orange-upholstered seating complete with a water
fountain. And the hotel’s grounds,
pleasantly landscaped with attractive plants and trees, include steps down to the riverfront itself.
Location
On the San Antonio River, walking distance to the River Walk
Hotel Indigo is located along the San Antonio River by the River Walk promenade, but it's about a 15-minute walk away from the main River Walk area, with its restaurants and nightlife. It's an ideal spot for those that want to be close enough to visit on foot but far enough out to enjoy some peaceful seclusion from the more boisterous areas. Directly across the water is the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, home to the city's ballet, opera, and symphony. The Alamo Mission, which houses exhibitions on Texan history, is a 13-minute walk away. The hotel maintains that river
taxis stop right behind the hotel, but guests report they come infrequently. San Antonio International Airport is around a 15-minute drive away, while the city’s Amtrak train station
is an eight-minute drive away.
Rooms
Bright and pleasant rooms with elegant bathrooms
Rooms at
the Hotel Indigo are bright and spacious, with large, comfortable beds on pale
wood floors. Accent walls featuring enlarged closeups of flowers anchor the room and the color palette, which runs from burgundy to sky blue. Yellow leather armchairs, tree-stump side tables, and large circular ottomans provide character. But some decor feels a touch dated, like the pale-blue patterned dining chairs and area rugs, which have a '90s look. Each room has a small kitchenette area equipped with a sink, Keurig
coffeemaker, and mini-fridge. Other standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, irons and ironing boards, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi, though there are no safes. (A safety deposit box is available at the front desk.) Bathrooms are attractively adorned with pale blue
walls and white subway tiles. Large wood-framed vanities with black countertops give ample elbow space. Individual Aveda toiletries are an elegant touch, as are the spacious walk-in
showers. Some rooms have river views, though their rates are higher. Note that some guests complain of maintenance issues, inconsistent housekeeping, and noise due to thin walls.
Features
Small pool, fitness and business centers, and on-site restaurant
The hotel's petite pool is pleasant though shallow and offers a limited number of loungers. There's a small gym equipped with cardio machines and a weight-lifting machine, but it lacks any free weights. To one side of the lobby, a slightly dated business center has PCs in booths, along with printing facilities. Wi-Fi and Wired internet access are available free throughout the hotel as well. Breakfast (for a fee) and dinner are served at the Horizonte Lounge and Bridge’s Bar and Bistro, and room service is available. Parking is available across the street, which is manned by security staff. Pets are allowed, for a fee.
