Bottom Line

The 66-room Hit Hotel is a budget option located across the street from popular Porto da Barra Beach. There are a number of restaurants, bars, and shops in the area, and the Da Barra Lighthouse is a 10-minute walk away. Rooms are simple and bright, with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges, and some look out to lovely sea views. Some of the bathrooms could use a refresh, but they're mostly clean and functional. A breakfast buffet is included in room rates, but that's about it for features. Most guests are here to spend their days at the beach or exploring the neighborhood. Travelers who'd prefer a property with a few more features could check out the nearby Grande Hotel Da Barra, which adds a restaurant, bar, and pool.

Scene

Pleasant budget option with a casual vibe, suitable for beach-minded travelers

As a simple and clean home base with great beach proximity, the Hit Hotel fits the bill. Blue and yellow accents highlight the reception area, and artwork with beach scenes hangs throughout. Guests can hang out on the sofas and chairs in the lobby, though honestly this isn't the kind of hotel where you'll spend your days whiling away the time on-site. In fact, the breakfast room adjacent to the lobby is the only other public space. Most guests are out exploring the neighborhood or at the beach during their stay here. The atmosphere is casual and friendly and the Hit attracts mostly Brazilian families and couples on vacation, plus a few tour groups.

Location

Across the street from the beach and close to restaurants, bars, and shops

This hotel is situated across the street from beautiful Porto da Barra Beach and a 10-minute walk from the 16th-century Da Barra Lighthouse, site of a rowdy New Year's Eve party with music and fireworks. Guests also can walk to the Museu Nautico da Bahia in nine minutes, and there are a couple of forts nearby. The area has many restaurants, bars, shops, and a supermarket. Elevador Lacerda, which connects upper and lower Salvador, can be reached in about 15 minutes by car or public transportation. Touristy Mercado Modelo is a 13-minute drive from the hotel, while the Pelourinho historic district can be reached in about 20 minutes by car. Plan on a 40-minute trip to Salvador's airport by car.

Rooms

Clean, simple rooms with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges -- some with nice sea views

The hotel's simple rooms aren't particularly large, but they're sunny and bright, with tiled floors, yellow or lime green accent walls, blonde furniture, and colorful bed runners atop white linens. Artwork mostly consists of beach scenes that are appropriate for the area. Bed configurations include twin to double mattresses, plus a few triple and quadruple units. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Basic bathrooms are tiled in white and feature granite counters, hairdryers, showers, and toiletries. Some bathrooms we visited showed maintenance issues like rust and mildew stains, but they're usable. About half of the hotel's rooms look out to the sea, while the others view the street.

Features

Free breakfast buffet, easy beach access, computer desk in lobby, and free Wi-Fi

This simple hotel offers little in the way of features, but it does serve a free breakfast buffet daily. The cheerful breakfast room has floor-to-ceiling windows along one wall and a bright yellow banquette along another, with chairs sporting bright blue and yellow seat cushions. Breakfast selections include continental options like pastries, cakes, breads, fruits, meats, and cheeses. Room service is available. No other meals are served. The beach across the street from the hotel is wide and sandy, and the water is calm enough for swimming and paddle boarding. It's a popular place for watching the sunset, and it can get crowded and busy at times, especially on the weekends. A computer is set up on a desk in the lobby for guests to use, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Parking is limited and available for a fee.
