Sandals Regency La Toc
La Toc Road

The first of the three Sandals resorts on St. Lucia, the 331-room, adult-only La Toc is a bit more traditional in style than its sister properties. It's set on 210 acres that roll through the forested grounds and over dramatic cliffs to the half-mile of brown-sugar sand beach. Geared to couples and honeymooners, the upscale resort has three pools, including a beachfront signature pool with a swim-up bar, the largest on St. Lucia. A nine-hole golf course, beautifully landscaped grounds with private lounging spots, and nine restaurants, including a fine-dining French restaurant, keep guests occupied. Sunset Bluff Village is a resort within the resort, offering elevated views and high-end butler-serviced villas with private pools.

Rendezvous Resort
Malabar Beach

Founded in 1966, Rendevous is an established all-inclusive, upscale resort that caters specifically to couples. Set on the shores of the white-sand Malabar Beach close to St. Lucia's capital city, the 100-room resort is both intimate and grand. Property features include two pools, a spa, and tennis, and rooms have sophisticated tropical style. The main restaurant has fabulous ocean views but the cuisine is a bit bland, and the planes coming and going at the neighboring airport can be noisy.

Casa del Vega
Clarke Avenue

The 10-room Casa del Vega is a budget-friendly guest house with lovely views of the sea but basic digs. Located close to the Castries regional airport (and the reason why many choose to stay here), the residential neighborhood provides a peaceful setting within walking distance of a mile-long stretch of sand, or guests can walk down a series of steps to the hotel's rocky beach. Dated rooms have air-conditioning and private baths, though hot water in the shower is sporadic, as is the free Wi-Fi. Guests who lack their own balcony can head for the shared Sunset Lounge. A small dining area offers a basic breakfast, but there's no lunch or dinner service. For something with more features, including a sandy beach and outdoor pools, check out the mid-range Villa Beach Cottages, though rates are higher.

Apartment Espoir
Labrelotte Crescent, East Winds/ Marisule

Apartment Espoir is a budget inn -- basically a simple apartment complex with 11 minimal studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, each featuring its own private balcony and full kitchen. A small pool, a laundry room, and a barbecue grill are the only amenities available; however, no other property on St. Lucia even comes close to matching these low rates. And guests can walk about five minutes to get to larger nearby resorts, like Windjammer Landing, to take advantage of the amenities there. For self-sufficient, undemanding travelers with tight purse strings, nothing compares.

Villa Beach Cottages
Choc Bay-Gros Islet Hwy, PO Box 129

Villa Beach Cottages is a three-pearl property located on Choc Bay Beach. The property’s 20 suites, which include full kitchens, are roomy if not overly modern. The two pools are small, but both have waterfall features and views of the sea. While there’s no on-site restaurant, several supermarkets and dining options are within walking distance, and meal service can be arranged upon request -- plus there’s a convenience store on-site. A great beach, barbecue facilities, and an internet room round out the features of this low-key, mid-range property. Travelers might want to compare rates and amenities with nearby Harmony Suites.

St. James's Club Morgan Bay
Gros Islet Highway, Choc Bay

The upper-middle-range, 335-room St. James's Club Morgan Bay is a family-friendly all-inclusive resort located along beach in Choc Bay. Although rooms – ranging from standard guest rooms to two-bedroom suites – are done in outdated decor that’s showing wear, they all have flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and furnished outdoor spaces with appealing views of the grounds, pools, or sea. The big draw are the resort’s reasonable all-inclusive rates, which includes food at six restaurants, alcoholic drinks at several bars, and an extensive array of activities and entertainment. Solid on-site features consist of two pools by the beach – one with a swim-up bar – an adults-only pool, and family pool with waterslides, in addition to a small spa, a well-equipped fitness center, and a decent beach. While St. James's Club doesn’t offer anything out of the ordinary, guests seeking a convenient, all-inclusive experience are likely to be satisfied. It’s worth comparing rates with the Coconut Bay Beach & Spa Resort, another all-inclusive resort with a longer beach, water park, and more impressive spa.

Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort
Labrelotte Bay, Saint Lucia

Set on a private stretch of beach along the calm waters of Labrelotte Bay on St. Lucia's northwest coast, the Windjammer is a 234-room, upper-middle-range resort with Mediterranean style and a slew of amenities that cater to equally to families and couples. The property offers six pools (two for kids), five restaurants, a spa, kids' programs, and a stellar water sports program that covers everything from snorkeling to sailing to diving. Rooms range from the standard 425-square-foot Ocean View Rooms to sprawling four-bedroom villas with full kitchens, expansive decks, and private pools. The property is set into a steep, terraced hillside with views of the Caribbean.

Sandals Halcyon Beach Resort
Choc Bay

The smallest and least expensive of the three Sandals Resorts on St. Lucia, Halcyon is also quieter and more intimate. The 169-room all-inclusive resort features low-rise French-Caribbean style buildings with exposed stone walls and white shuttered windows. The rooms are not huge, but they are stylish, cozy nests for honeymooners and couples. The lushly landscaped grounds offer plenty of opportunity for wandering and lounging in oversized daybeds, on swinging benches, in oceanfront whirlpools, and on sofas set around fire pits overlooking the Caribbean.

Harmony Suites
Flamboyant Road, Reduit Beach Rd, Rodney Bay

This quiet, 30-room mid-range property, which only allows children ages 12 and up, has a simple colonial design and a location along Rodney Bay Marina -- a five-minute walk from touristy Reduit Beach. There's not much else to the grounds other than pretty gardens, an outdoor pool, and deck space facing the waterfront. Cheerful, albeit slightly dated, suites come with private balconies, while kitchenettes have mini-fridges and coffeemakers. The all-day restaurant serves a la carte fare, and it's a short walk to more dining options, bars, and two shopping malls. Staff can arrange diving excursions and fitness classes.
